Andy Murray
« on: 08 September 2008, 10:08:40 »

Can I just take a second to congratulate Andy Murray on an absolute demolition of Nadal in the US Open semis last night - it was great to see him show his potential beating Nadal over two days and believe me - Nadal was playing at his peak last night - Congrats  :y :y

ps - Congrats Nadal - very sporting loser - easy to see why he's the most popular player on the tour  :y

All you've gotta do is beat Federer again - you've beat him twice as many times as he's beat you - so get the job done  :)

It was like watching a completely different player last night, he had some focus and determination and seemed to be mentally prepared for the match. Something that he hasn't shown much of up till now.

As long as he keeps his mind focussed in the same way then I think he may well be in with a chance.

I bet Roger Federer is relieved that he's not facing Nadal though and will be more than fancying his chances agaiunst Murray. Should be a good match, now the only question is whether I stay up and watch it live?

I reckon Federer would rather play Nadal - he finds Murray's style harder to play against :)

Oh and you've GOT to watch it - it's on at 10pm SkySports tonight - it may go 4 or 5 hours - but tbh how often does a Brit make a Slam final? :y :y

just looked up their head to head records, Nadal has beaten Federer 12 times in 18 matches, Murray has beaten Federer twice in 3 matches (all hard courts)  they've never met at the US Open but its a very fast hard court - which you'd think would favour Federer slightly against Murray - I may have to rethink this  :)

upshot is - Federer doesn't like playing Nadal OR Murray  :y

I watched it last night and thought he controlled the game superbly. I shall be watching the final tonight to the end.

I was also keeping up with the score on my phone at Newent whilst the quiz was going on although someone interpreted this as checking answers and  blatantly cheating ::)

I hope he falls flat on his aris, after his comments about England a couple of years ago. I know its shallow and narrow minded of me but he should have kept his mouth shut. What goes around comes around.

Same old story. You cant blame the Jocks. When the English win, they're English, when the Scots win, they're British.

Our top gold medallist was British (Scottish)

I think Andy Murray has a good chance of winning. He has beaten Federer 2 times in the last 3 matches.

Even if he does win though, I think he will keep his title of the most boring man in Scotland ;D ;D ;D :-* :-*

can I just say - in Murray's defence he was asked a rather snide comment about Scotland not being in the World Cup 2006 and was asked who he would support - he jokingly said "anyone who plays England" - Tim Henman was sat beside him and found it funny - as did all the press room - it was a joke - if thats what you're meaning Pete  :y :y

you strike me as a reasonable fella - i'd h8 if a few throwaway remarks I made as a teenager were thrown back at me for years :y

Think of the alternative headlines tomorrow:

1. Super Britain!!! Murray Wins US Open.

Or...

2. Super Sulker!!! Scot, Andy Murray, loses to Federer in US Open.

We English win whichever way.  ;D ;D ;D

Well if thats the case, I hope he does well :y

Being English, I will support England whoever they play; however, if Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland are playing I hope they win. English first then British ;)

Funny how that doesnt seem to apply with other GB countries
eg Most Scots want England to lose all the time especially at Football

PS before I'm swamped I said "Most Scots"  :-X
