We listened to Liz Truss's speech in the bus from Malaga airport expecting her to resign.

The thing I can't abide is that the very people calling for her head put her in the position to begin with. Barely in the job three weeks and it's already time for her to go. That's not right. If she's suddenly that incompetent htf did she get the position to begin with? ::)

I think the answer to that is the public didn’t vote just  a few thousand Tory party members.

There was a brilliant meme doing the rounds of an elderly couple. The tag line was something like we are mostly retired now but we like voting for next pm.

It's because the Conservative Party's reason to exist for the last couple of decades has been to elect a new leader every few years. This favours candidates that exhibit novelty 'qualifications' more than any that might have shown some experience or, god forbid, competence at anything.

Truss and her cronies clearly demonstrated they were idealogues*** when they reached Parliament, and so the last three weeks should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever looked at British politics.

They are simply a bunch of educated idiots, completely distanced from the reality of real peoples lives, they provide their " friends" with jobs that are way above their capabilities this recent shambles proves it without a doubt. You either understand finance or you don't KK is a prime example of knowing f**k all. Also Liz chose her bestie as Health minister a stupid fat bitch who enjoys a smoke and is rumoured to want to overturn all the no smoking rules that have been brought in.

It all sounds like a Douglas Adams book to me especially the names! Of course the white mice computer might have some malware.

Don't entirely disagree re smoking. Freedom of choice is still apparently acceptable.

We have  not had a real conservative government for decades, Nick.

Bojo was/is essentially a lib dem. I think most of his decisions (such as they were) were made by Carrie who would withdraw sexual rations if he did not comply. :)

That is a real problem which also applies to the Labour party, and it's caused by our first past the post system. There are many members of each party who would be more representative in a centrist third party. That includes most of the Prime Ministers and party leaders for the last 70odd years. Just look how little differentiates Johnson, May, Cameron, Blair and Major actual politics. And it's not difficult to put Brown and Thatcher on the edges of that block.

What ought to happen is the centrists form the government, and the others gain or lose influence depending on the political mood of the country at the time of a general election. This would improve each party's internal unity and effectiveness, which none of the three (currently more like two and a quarter ;D  ) main parties can currently manage.

So time for a new party. Middle of the road party.

Many European countries have lots of new parties. More coalitions ?

The 'Conservative' party should have split into two separate parties between the Europhile Tory Wets and the Thatchrities years ago.

One of the parties would have withered and died and become a irrevancy, and the other would have prospered.

Given voting patterns for national sovereignty, low immigration, low taxes etc my bet would be that it would be the Tory Wets that found themselves in the wilderness.

there is a middle of the road party - The Liberal Democrats. Which is a merger of the rump of the traditional Liberal party and all the other new wonder parties.

Coalitions are unusual in British politics because of the way we elect councils - the group with the largest number of councillors(or MPs) gets control. This would require a huge change in the way we conduct out political affairs, and none of the groups involved are daft enough to suggest it without the support of everyone else.

Yes, a very small ineffectual thing.

Unlike the other two parties which are large and ineffectual.

They were once the middle of the road party, but moved further to the left as Labour moved towards the middle.
Then did the same thing as Labour and the Tories did. Just said anything to the media they thought would get them some votes.
All three main parties are a waste of space, skin and fresh air.
Tbh, I believe a little more every day that the country is fooked beyond redemption.
The liberal left have ruined it and they hold most of the levers of power no matter who is in Govt. at any particular time.
