Diesel out, V6 in
« on: 10 September 2008, 22:14:02 »

Well, finally bit the bullet and made my mind up on what to do next.  With the diesel miggy dead and unlikely to come back to life (but I'll never say never till it's off my drive) and needing a new car I came to the difficult decision of what to replace it with.  I spent hours looking at VW's, old Merc's, old Jag's, Mondeos, refused to touch anything french, and came to the conclusion that there was only one possible replacement for an Omega....  another Omega  :y

Got a '99 2.5 with 65,000 on the clock.  Only a CDX, so will be looking to get some of the Elite gear across to the new motor.

Just out of interest - how complicated would it be to transfer:

Auto-Dipping mirror
Memory Seats
Bose/Head-Unit/Changer
Rear Blind/Shelf/Speakers
Xenon's and associated sensors/washers

And I've got a wierd little button on the dash that I didn't have in the old one next to the headlight switch which has a sort of T and 'm' I think, with a little LED on it.  Haven't pressed it yet - no idea what it does  ;D

You'll get to know and hate that button .. if it is still conected .... and the stupid female voice keeps going

"Traffic master - Licence expired  Traffic master - Licence expired"

If you hit the switch about 10 times she shuts up for a few weeks ... I got fed up with it and cut the wires going into the radio ..........  :(

Traffic Master was one of the first things I took out. I swapped it all for a trim panel without the TM switch hole with someone on the Yahoo Omegas forum

I decided to subscribe for a year and see how much use it is... So far it's saved me a lot of time but is still a bit annoying! Still undecided really but is definitly useful if, like me, you do the miles!

I like Traffic Master....

As an aside, As I found myself driving the length of the British Isles and back last weekend, I signed up to the free trial of the TomTom traffic info. service that connects via GPRS and is supposed to update you on problems en-route.

Granted, I didn't actually encounter any significant problems, but it alerted me to a handful of roadworks, lane closures, delays etc. up and down the country and in all but one instance there was no evidence of anything when I arrived there. Conversely, I came across several roadworks that weren't mentioned. I'm glad I didn't have it configured to divert me off into the back of beyond to avoid these nonexistent problems.

Anyone else had any experiences of this system? Was I unlucky or is it not worth bothering with?

not used TT Traffic. TM isn't 100% accurate, and any delay under 15mins I ignore.  But its good for the big tailbacks.  Also handy if you hear a five min tailback has grown to a 15 min tailback - then time to get off before it becomes an AVOID notice :y
