If like me you use trains approx. once a decade, then they are a novelty rather than a cause of annoyance.
As for buses - Im entitled to travel on them free now, but I still avoid them like the plague.
Used one in Romford nearly a year ago and was reminded why I hadnt been on one in over 40 years.
If the good Lord had intended us to use Buses, he wouldnt have invented Driving Licences.  :)

Our company now provides zero parking and favours city centre locations, so driving not an option

I check train fares from King’s Cross to Doncaster quite often, and they can range anywhere from £19 to £132+, depending on the time of day and other factors—so I know exactly what you mean about how expensive they can be.

It’s the same with flight comparison sites for journeys to and from Heathrow or Manchester to various destinations; prices can vary drastically.

Saw prices yesterday for one-way flight from Turkey to LHR £28 (Economy). Checked Skyscanner to compare, etc., and slightly higher.

Today’s same details, the flight is now £89.

But from what I learn, the algorithms are working against us as usual to favor the market’s prices (rip-off Britain as usual). :-X

There is a real scam you can do with that, people buy an open ticket, use it, then look at the actual arrival times of the trains within the ticket window, and claim against the worst ones!

There was a similar scam when Ryanair were doing the 99p flights. Buy a ticket for every 99p flight you could find, and wait for one of them to be late/cancelled and claim your E261 compo which I think was £220 ish. If more than one in 220 flights was delayed/cancelled you were quids in.

In the case of the flights, did you not have to prove you actually took the flight to be entitled to the compo?

No. And how could you take a flight if it was cancelled?

Me, flying out from Malaga. Key requirement is middle of day flights. My days of getting up early or arriving at 11 pm are done. Whoever has the decent time gets my money.

Surely you had to be booked on the flight?
