This is not a for-sale thread, but more me musing about what to do with my Omega - having seen a scrap yard have just offered £800 for one!
I am curious, what is the market currently like for trading / buying / selling Omegas? I am not asking the question blindly, I have tried to gauge it from forums and auction websites, and such, but I'm finding it hard to do, because there are so few for sale, and some of the prices seem (to me) to be unrealistically high.
I have an Omega at home, that I'm under pressure to do something with. It's a 2.6 V6 CDX Auto, and has been sat here since September and hasn't moved. I bought it for either £500 or £550 (can't recall which) with an oil cooler failure (caught very early). and a shagged alternator.
Just after buying it, I stripped the engine down (cooling system, rad, stat, oil cooler) etc all out. I've also removed the timing belt kit and w/pump ready for a new one to be fitted. (I left the cam covers on, and the plugs in, to prevent moisture ingress while it stands).
Since I took it apart, a few months ago, I have totally lost interest. The cold weather probably hasn't helped, but I literally, cannot be arsed to put it back together. No motivation at all. I know it would usually be a leisurely days work for me, but I have been down in the dumps and fed up for ages and I have zero inclination to work on an Omega and don't see that changing anytime soon.
It's a shame, because I have bought loads of new parts for it. New shiny/clear header tank, stat, cambelt kit and pump, cam cover gaskets, seals, oil, filter, ATF etc.
I'm going to have to do something with it soon, either flog it as is, for a discounted rate, or, fix it and either enjoy it / or sell it as a working car with a full MOT. It does still have some MOT, and is also still insured even thought it's off the road. It's not rusty, but sitting there without moving is likely to soon change that.
Apart from some dull paintwork, it's a cracking example. Immaculate inside, none of the common visible rust patches, but is let down by a faded / dull boot and roof lid, and a crease in the OSR door. But, without many around, they are small matters. I think it's had two owners, the first chap had it for many years, and there is a folder of paperwork and bills coming to what must be tens of thousands. 98k on the clock.
I drove it home from MK and did a further 20 or so miles in it, the engine is sweet and it drives as expected.
My temptation is to just get shot for spares/repairs. But, I am also wondering if, come the spring and I feel a bit better, I might bitterly regret doing so
