Here's the thing...
Have spent a few pints with a lifelong Labour supporter (who has a degree in American Studies) and a life long Conservative voter who is adamant that he will vote labour.
I don't claim to be politically motivated, but I know what I have seen over the years and I trust my instinct on it even if I don't fully understand why I think what I think.
My initial response to the poll was to vote Conservative. My instinct is to stand by that, and here's why...
My local MP has held a reasonable account of himself, and whilst he is a a Conservative candidate, he personally has some merit. So, as my parliamentary representative, he deserves to carry on as such.
I cannot ignore the niggling bells from reading the Reform manifesto that it wouldn't be out of place in 1930s Germany or Austria, very reasonable but with distinct undertones. And that doesn't sit well.
I will never vote for Labour, ever because I know that I am not a Socialist or Communist. And as long as they seek to play Robin Hood, they will achieve nothing positive. Especially whilst they live the high life whilst claiming to represent the working classes.
I may not be a particularly successful capitalist, but I appreciate the concept agree with it fundamentally. I work for what I have and begrudge paying to support those who rip the arse out of the system simply because it's there.
In short, whilst the Tories deserve a damn good shit kicking, and management change, I will vote for my Conservative candidate based on his form rather than an unknown and unproven band wagon subscriber. Put another way, were he to stand as an independent, I would still vote for him.
Take a closer look at the Reform press images... For an unelected bunch, they've some smug tinkers in their front ranks.
