Having watched the first few minutes, my main takeaway is that clearly the person presenting the video does not know the meaning of the word rationing  ::).
What she is trying to say, in her own stupid way, is that electricity is so expensive that people are forced to cut back i.e. self ration. There's plenty of the stuff to go around, so no blackouts.
Fillet steak is also being rationed, have you seen the fickin price of it?  :o

That's only because so far they have been able to top up via the interconnectors at stupidly expensive rates when demand exceeds supply.  ::)

At some point, the French, Belgians and Dutch won't have any to spare either, then the lights go out.  >:(

So, we have impending power outages, or power use reduction periods, and the mode of vehicle transport being forced upon us is ……. electric. What can possibly go wrong.  ::)
That’ll do wonders for EV sales won’t it.

Despite the introduction of EVs, and the ramping up of their usage. UK electricity consumption has been trending down since the early 2000's. Also, having renewables is much less of a problem when you have high EV uptake. This is because using smart tariffs the energy companies can (and already do) dump excess supply into car batteries and owners benefit from very low electricity prices.

Going back to the video, the presenter seems to want to make a link between our high energy prices and renewable energy. Which seems like BS given that we have higher energy prices than anywhere in the EU, but there are also countries in the EU which produce as much green energy as we do.

Personally I think it could have more to do with the billions in profits and hundreds of millions in dividend payouts our energy companies make every year. Follow the money and all that  :y

If it had been someone who commands an iota of respect, rather than that awful woman, I might have actually listened to what they had to say. The last time I came across her on YouTube was when she was attending some hippy camp on the moors of Lancashire, spouting shite similar to this video.

The French have already announced that the cheap overnight electricity rates are to be stopped (in Summer 2025 IIRC) because the overnight demand is now broadly similar to the day time demand. My suspicion is that those in the UK expecting to charge their milk-floats on the cheap overnight are heading for quite a shock.

Yes, undoubtedly the straightforward overnight tariffs will go once EV usage gets to a point where demand evens out around the clock. That said I think there will always be a place for flexible time of use tariffs like the one I have because renewables don't always deliver energy on demand (hydro / tidal being the obvious exceptions). So energy companies will always need somewhere to dump their excess solar/wind energy.

As I type this, my car is plugged in, not doing anything. I've told octopus I want it 100% full by 0600 tomorrow but I have no idea when they will choose to charge it, I could look at the app on my phone, but I CBA, plus they change the times lots throughout the day anyway (presumably as their predicted demand changes).

This article popped up on my timeline earlier and although the quoted prices are from last year and a bit higher than current rates, you'll get the picture.

Swmbo has (against my judgement) just signed up with a supplier who insists on smart meters, to avoid the 10% increase to energy bills this week.  ::)
If the lights go out, it will still be my fault.  ;D

Chinese owned 'British' Steel are planning on closing their blast furnaces in Scun...thorpe and will replace them with cleaner electric arc furnaces.  However National Grid have now told them that they can't have a connection until 2032!  :o

No electricity, no furnaces, no jobs....  ::)  Net Zero?  Net Stupid more like!  :-X

Ah, is that why I keep getting the repeated messages ‘Urgent, your electricity meter certification has expired. DO NOT ignore this message and book an appointment for a smart meter now’.
……….

I received a call from EON this morning regarding my out of date meter certification. I explained that they’d had two attempts at fitting a smart meter but both attempts had failed the ping test, so only worked in dumb mode. Both times they removed the new meter and refitted my old meter.
The lady was very understanding and agreed to remove me from the ‘smart’ notifications caller list, emails and text contact list, which she said lasts for 6 months. After the 6 months they have to do the same again.
We shall see how that goes  ::)  but should I be concerned about my out of date certification.  ;D
