I've read that allegedly Cleverly's team assumed they had Tugenhat's votes in the bag and tried to pull a fast one by 'lending' Jenrick some votes to knock Kemi out, as they didn't want to face him in the final members vote, but underestimated how much support he had with the MPs.

Well that depends on whether the Tory MPs unite behind their new leader that their membership chooses for them..... or not! 

I expect you're right though, and the Lib Dem wing of the Tory parliamentary party will be quite disgruntled that their man didn't make the cut.

It's not an accident, but the real reason for the party's existence: to elect a new leader from a selection of joke candidates as often as possible. They've got so good at it that the record is 49 days. The joke was pretty good too.....
