My FIL has a 520d of this era and it's a really lovely thing to ride round in. His is (obviously) a 2L and a manual, neither of which really suits the car, but I can imagine a six pot auto would be a pretty perfect thing to knock about in  :y

I really liked my 1999 T reg E39 530d Touring. It was a great car, it pulled and sounded like a Deltic locomotive, and was reasonably economical as well.  :y

My theory is that the later versions should be even better?  ???  :-\  I need to test one though.  :)

EGR cooler and split turbo oil pipes are the two big items.

The first is a recall fix. The second is a reason not to buy an ex plod one. Another plod issue is cracking rear subframe mounts from overloading. Reinforcement was an option  :o

A nice privately owned one should be a safe bet. If you need a towbar and intend using it, then get the 535d. Same engine turned up to 11.

I thought British law stated that everything owned by a woman still belongs to her husband. >:D

Including the woman.

There is a catch.

It only applies if you follow Sharia Law, which is not dissimilar as a concept to living your life by the rules to dungeons and dragons or Warhammer.

The woman doesn't have to be in the same country, let alone room to get married. A representative of her or her guardian, who could be someone that has 'known' both people qualifies and a couple of witnesses, also 'known' to the couple are all that's required. Any dowry gets paid to the Guardian.

I flew with a woman in such a 'marriage' who really hates her 'husband'. I suggested that if she really wanted to piss him off that we could go to Vegas and tie the knot and there wouldn't be a single thing he could do about it.

There's a reason Sharia marriage isn't recognised legally in most countries but for these men it's about power and control. They're so arrogant they don't even consider legalising the marriage in their country of residence.

Did she accept your generous and romantic proposal?  ???   ;D
