40 years since the Bradford FC fire

Just watching it on local tv, god it was awful. It took hold in minutes.

Yes, all those years of rubbish and  detritus building up under the wooden stand over the years was a tragedy waiting to happen. Pity inspections were so slapdash then,  those poor souls would have had longer lives.

Just seen it on the news, what an awful way to die the fire looks terrifying.

I remember staring at the telly in disbelief as a man stood there with his hair on fire. He was totally confused as to what to do, everything around him in flames. I don't know what happened to him, but I really hope he made it out.

In those days, the cameras didn't 'cut away'.

I remember the ITV commentator, John Helm, saying at first there was a small fire at the back of the stand. Then within minutes the whole stand was ablaze, with blazing bits of it raining down on people running from it.
