does anyone know where i can find out what im entitled to. holiday pay, sick pay and so on. ive been told i should get holiday after being with them for 12 weeks even though im self employed.

anyone know the laws or a good site i can find out.

Talk to your local citizens advice they were pretty helpfull for me regarding a problem i had, nothing to lose its free ....Although I had to make an appointment to speak to someone but the lady knew the law (what i was needing) back to front

you contract? - you have been working at the same place for 12 weeks and want holiday of them, or the agency you work for?

Depends on the company i guess, i would like to contract once i have more experiance, one person who we have contracting here is on £550 a day

When I was contracting, therfore self employed there was no sick pay etc. If you wanted a day off you didn't get paid it was as simple as that really. of course it depends on which agency you are working for, like anything some are good some are bad.

You are entitled to the same statutory holiday as the rest of the working people... It's a level set by the government! They can stipulate that you have to work there for 12 weeks before you take it though IIRCC!

Unless they're being a bit naughty and paying you your holiday pay as you accrue it in your hourly rate :-/ :-/

When I was contracting I got half a day's annual leave built up for every week I worked - therefore 24 days leave a year, incl bank holidays..

Working for an Agency as self employed and paying your own tax and ni you can take as much holiday as you like but you are not entitked to any holiday pay or an ssp. you are a sub contractor. As such you get paid for what you do and thats it. If you work for an agency and they pay your tax (paye) then you are entitled to holiday pay and ssp. Beware however if you work the full tax year for just one agency you will be taxed as self employed but at the PAYE rate.. Make sure you do work for at least 3 diffrent companys in any one tax year to pay the lower rate of tax with benifits of being self employed. Hope this helps.
