TPMS is a legislated feature for post 2014 cars.

Most work on 433Mhz and do not use a Bluetooth solution (its far to power hungry), in fact BT has only really become available since BT LE arrived with automotive grade ICs (which is pretty recently, we are just looking into it)

The JLR receiver has multiple antennas so can detect the direction and position of the sensors

I'm quite happy with my Merc's ABS derived tyre deflation check set-up .....  :y

None of the rest of our cars have any kind of TPMMS  ;)

Up the shute again.

100 mile round trip front nearside showing 27 psi, rear nearside showing 44 psi.

No amount of resetting or playing with the menu's make any difference.

Looks like an expensive trip to the dealers ;(

So, I bought one.

Totally F***** up the system.

Tyre pressures now reading zero - and display say service tyre pressure system with warning light on dash!

Took it for a run and it's made no difference.
There's obviously something wrong with the whole system. That cheapo tool will obviously only work if it's all ok. Get it to the garage, or to someone who knows what they're doing.

Back to basics

So when you execute the TPMS learn function via the menu, is it actually entering the learn.

On some Vx's, when in learn mode it flashes the indicator adjacent to the wheel which it is looking to learn, you then use the tool you have to provoke the appropriate sensor into transmitting its ID code (by holding it to the tyre wall near the sensor).

It should then do a short pip on the horn before flashing the next indicator adjacent to the next sensor to learn, you repeat until the are all learnt.

The tool you have does nothing more than make the sensor talk to the system.

Its worth checking you have no cheap gadgets which work, or could interfere, with the TPMS systems installed and working on the car.

I did speak to our TPMS team, our system works by monitoring the wheel rpm via the ABS sensors and correlating it with that from the sensors. The wheel speed changes for each wheel when cornering, the first drive cycle does the learn, the second a check and then it is stored and activated mid drive cycle.

Is that not the same as my ML ie it detects a wheel going faster than the other 3 which flags up a message to say you have a soft tyre .... now go & find it. Compared with others that use a temp/pressure sensor to give you the actual pressure  :-\

That sounds like the basic ABS one whereby it can infer that a tyre is going flat but, cannot tell you the actual pressure.  :y

The system above has direct valve mounted pressure sensors to give the readings, but works in conjunction with the ABS to determine where the sensors are (and hence why you can move wheels, change sensors etc and not need specialist kit).

I have done pretty well what you have described.

Menu in learn mode.

Tool bleeped on first tyre.

Would not bleep on any of the other tyres.

The display was reading zero for every tyre.

The display also read 'Service tyre pressure monitoring system '

Nothing changed after a good drive.
