Services Offered
« on: 15 July 2008, 16:40:46 »

Not what some of you are thinking!!

How about a section where OOF members can offer their services for hire or free or whatever. It wouldn't necesarily have to be car based.

Members are all happy to give advice but some also cgo that bit further such as TB with his Tech 2 there are others I know that do cambelt changes for instance. so how about a section where they can advertise their wares?

Still not what some of you are thinking  ;)

Well you can put me down for making the tea and sandwiches Brian!! ;D :y

No, seriously, that seems like a good idea worth thinking about by the members who really can offer these services if they want to. :y

Brian, a good idea, and one we've considered.  I would like to see something along lines of that added, perhaps combined with a recommended garage etc type section.

The downside at the moment is we are having enough trouble getting the For Sale sections to run smoothly; I think such a section could cause even more problems for the admin staff.

Can imagine a few people would take the piss.

Like at the last cambelt meet where a certain member signed up, came to that, and hasn't been seen since.

I think services should be offered, or answering a plea for help rather than a 'pester this person'

markey mark

I agree the last thing I would want is people being pestered for their services. As I said I'm not suggesting it should be free either. From what I've seen in my short time on here is there are some who quite literally go out of their way to help others, I would rather pay somebody on here £150 for a job knowing that they are trusted members rather than give the same or more to some cowboy in a garage who is only interested in his profit margin.

As for TB's concerns maybe there are web developers out there who could help also.

Maybe thats where the post count of a member shows it's true value.

The issues are generally not technical  :-X

Nuff said ;)

Well my day job is with a TV broadcaster so it's unlikely I can offer any help from that field, but I like to think I'm fairly hot on the IT front and if I don't know the answer I generaly know someone who does. So feel free to ask away!

I know it sounds bad but because of this when there is a cam belt meet there should be a post count of say 100 or more for members who have come to have there cambelt done. Just an idea :)

I would have said more for a cambelt,

Many members have a 100 post count, a lot of them may not have been on for a while and just poped in to take advantage.

What about a sliding scale.

Amount of post relevent to time to do a job.

100 posts = 30 mins = Disk Pads replaced
150 posts = 45 mins = Pads and Disks Replaced
200 points =  ?
250 = points = ?
500 points = ?
750 points = Exhaust Change
1000 points = Cambelt Change

Above is just an idea, but maybe a fair way to look at it

Trouble is you could have the situation where a member has made, say, 95 really useful and helpful posts which have benefitted many members and can't get help at a meet ....versus ... a member like me, made many more posts, but with little technical merit, who could get help.

Which is the more deserving?  Personally I would throw me out !!!

I think each memebr has to be judged on individual merits -- just like the big wide world, there are going to be users and wasters -- but the majority are a good bunch.

Maybe -- the minimum count should be used, just to establish a member of "good standing", but thereafter it's up to every individual who they help and how much.
