Like at the last cambelt meet where a certain member signed up, came to that, and hasn't been seen since.

Wasn't aware of that  :-/

I know it sounds bad but because of this when there is a cam belt meet there should be a post count of say 100 or more for members who have come to have there cambelt done. Just an idea :)

I would have said more for a cambelt,

Many members have a 100 post count, a lot of them may not have been on for a while and just poped in to take advantage.

What about a sliding scale.

Amount of post relevent to time to do a job.

100 posts = 30 mins = Disk Pads replaced
150 posts = 45 mins = Pads and Disks Replaced
200 points =  ?
250 = points = ?
500 points = ?
750 points = Exhaust Change
1000 points = Cambelt Change

Above is just an idea, but maybe a fair way to look at it
any 1000 posts member should be able to do their own belt!!

i believe oof is equal to all.  A newbie (as we all were once) has the same rights as a veteran.  (there are exceptions with selling to overcome other issues).

some members decide to only physically assist highly active members.  they have every right to do that.  Whilst possibly not fully in the 'oof spirit', they are giving their time, and should have right to pick and choose.

in the same way, i tend to trent friends and aquaintences differently - goof friends who I know will always give a little and not always take will be priority for me.

I'm new to all this forum malarky and costantly leave my ofspring screeching in hysterics when I ask what turns out to be a dumb forum related question like (what's LOL mean).....I know now!

As yet I've not been to any meets or parties, but what's the deal at a cambelt party do those having it done pay for the services of the person doing it or do they just pay for the parts?

If they're paying for the persons time then surely stopping somebody from having it done because their post count is low is a bit harsh. (my count is in the low 100'a but my money's just as good as TB's for instance) However if you guy's are doing this for nothing then of course that would be an issue.

No money changes hands, its all helping and learning.

Those that can, do
those who can't try and help / or guided through doing as much as they can, or just spectate.

Always a good time had by all.

The only money normally paid is to Jaime, towards the costs of the tech2's

I believe that word of mouth is more trusted than post count. If the person has done good on previous jobs and has had no repercusion from that oof member than that should be the person you could contact regarding any problems that you might have with the car, i.e If an oof member can do cambelts with ease and has had good reports from those members given to others or  someone can do genral serviceing and has good reports as well then may be they should be contacted for there services, wether they would charge you for there time or not. I personally have help a few oof members and have had a good report from them and with it coming through the forum.

I think a donation should be made at cambelt parties ect for services rendered and the money used for the running/up keep of the forum or bits for the meets ie marque, BBQ.

Ignoring Tech2s for a mo, no money is paid (unless people get parts on behalf of others etc) - it is a meeting for like minded enthusiasts to help each other, with the 'experts' showing the less experienced hwo to do jobs.

Its not just car jobs attendees can help with - for instance, my tractor got a full external valet, and bob.dent was (as usual) chief chef on the bbq.

Tech2s, unfortunately, have to have a financial contribution.

Ignoring the software updates that Tech2 requires for a mo, the hardware alone is approx £1500 each for a 2nd hand one.  I have 2, so a significant investment.  And on the lookout for a 3rd  :-X

Well I'm even more impressed now, I know you all give up enough time answering questions on here but getting down and dirty under the bonnet is commendable! I understand the charging for the Tech 2 stuff becasue of the high purchase cost and the constant need to keep them up to date again very expensive.

I also understand the concerns about people just wanting something done and then disapering never to be heard of again.
I'm not sure I have any answers to this as I say I'm new to all of this and am very impressed with the level of knowledge and help offered as well as the speed at which the reply's come. I guess we just have to hope that future attendees are not there just for a freebie.

Without wanting to name and shame.....

Well, I was finally named and I AM ashamed :(

Just tell me and I'll do whatever I reasonably could to change the way you felt about me after that meet... I didn't post a TY on the forum straight away after the event and after that everytime I wanted to, I thought it's now too late... Believe it or not that's been my nightmare ever since and honestly I didn't know how/what to do. I've really felt bad about it; I couldn't post a TY as it was too late, and I couldn't post anything else as I knew it wouldn't be welcome :'( up until now...

If you'd agree, I'll be there for the next meet, not touching my car but just to help out others... ?

That was much warm a treat than I though I would get, cheers Jim.

I didn't want to reregister, as I am the same person and you'd recognize me in any further meets, etc. More importantly that would have been taking advantage, which I think you agree wasn't my intention although it looks as if it was.

Again I'm so sorry if my carelessness has caused anyone of you trouble or it has hurt your feelings :(

Good on you mate for fronting up and coming back.  We all have upsets and misunderstanding now and again --- but, as has been said, life is too short.  :y
