The 6.9 in gunmetal with either a tan or navy interior would be my preferred classic of choice. Should have bought one in the late '90s when a mechanically sound 6.9 needing cosmetics was ~£2,500 ::)

Any really nice W116 would do though. Or a resto mod with the running gear from the w220 S500.

How much now for a usable car?

I've done my good deed this week...

Mate has sold his '68 530d so found him a nice '54 C220cdi local to him. He fobbed it off. Anyhoo, turns out it's being sold by a dealer he knows personally and when he mentioned that his 5 series had sold, they said he could have it for a decent price...

I'll convert him yet >:D

My son recently traded in his 2012 Focus Titanium X (full history and he was the only owner) against a new Mustang Mach E  EV (he got $500 for the Focus) now he's had a letter from Ford themselves telling him that as a thank you for buying the Mustang he can now get a 5 cent reduction on every gallon of petrol he puts in it!!

……….
Many so called 'progressive' car manufacturer's exchanged buttons for touchscreen to show where the future lay. Now customers are telling them they prefer   good old-fashioned buttons because they work better.

Buttons work better and car makers are starting to see the error of their ways.

Just been reading that from 2026, the NCAP rating of vehicles with touchscreen dashboards will be heavily penalised due to, wait for it, ‘having to take your eyes off the road to perform basic functions on a touchscreen is dangerous’. Well no shit Sherlock.  ::)  The report said that by 2029/2030 the wider use of touchscreen dashboards may be banned altogether.

Back to the actual car, other that "goes well" - How did you find it?

Some of the reviews said the ride was very poor, but any other details about it?

I'm still balancing my numbers for when I make the switch, but as it will be via work I won't take the hit of depreciation.

Overall I was impressed.

It appears to be well made with a good quality interior. Spacious, so plenty of room for a man of your height. I found no problem with the ride. It also has fast charging (400KW)and a long range of 400 miles.

Also, if you buy the slowest model (0-60 in 6.8) if falls below the £40,000 government theft tax.

Give it a try. :y

Just tried and failed to get a quote via LEX our EV provider for work. Usually this is because of the insurance bit failing, maybe it's so new it's not giving quotes in that.

The 'Performance' version only comes in at £48k list, but I don't know what my monthlies would be.

What's curious about our system is the list price has a varied impact on the cost of the car, presume deprecation and resale but it still odd.

£75k BMW vs £50k Tesla Y = Very similar monthlies.  :-\

They did the figures for me.

From memory, with a £10,000 deposit, it worked out at £300ish PCM over 3 years......at 2.9%.

Presumably the lower spec car would prove less expensive.

I think there was also £1000 contribution from the dealer plus another £2000 from somewhere else I can't quite recall. So £3000.
