Although I don’t watch normal TV (I only watch dramas and films) I see that Met Commissioner Mark Rowley has made an apology regarding corrupt police that prompted a Panorama TV investigation, apparently shown on TV last night.
Charing Cross Police Station, ‘Nine officers and one staff member had been suspended, with two more officers removed from frontline duties. There was incontrovertible evidence of racism, misogyny, anti-Muslim sentiment and bragging about excessive use of force during questioning or arrests of suspects’. The entire custody team were disbanded and the offences were all caught on camera according to Rowley. Other failings were other officers turning a blind eye to colleagues abusing use of power, which is a policy standards breach in itself.

Doesn’t exactly fill you will confidence that the police will act lawfully does it.  :-\
I have no idea of how in depth the Panorama programme went as it was on BBC, and my loathing of anything BBC prevents me from watching or listening to anything BBC related.  ::)

Well, all the baddies were white British, and all the goodies were poor foreign souls who were blameless.

The BBC is quite good at demonstrating such things. ::)

 ;D ;D

I heard that some of these police persons got seriously reprimanded for daring to agree with Tommy Robinson’s views.  ::)  ;D

When I worked unsociable shifts I would finish work at silly o’clock in the morning, so I got used to being stopped on my way home on a fairly regular basis, and it didn’t bother me at all as they have a job to do. The police that stopped my car were of varying attitudes but mostly they were polite and understanding when I explained my reason for being out so late/early.  :y
On one occasion though, the guy that stopped me asked to see my driving licence and proof of mot. I politely told him that I don’t carry any documents with me and he told me that it was law that I must carry my licence with me when driving. So, I told him to write me a ticket for failing to produce, and make himself look a plank when I challenged it or, write me a 7 day producer. As he spoke to his colleague, I called up the .gov vehicle check on my phone to show proof of tax and mot, askMID to show that the vehicle was insured and a very recent DVLA Licence check code from when I hired a van. When he returned to me he didn’t even look at them, he just said to drive carefully and off I went, no producer, no nothing.
He was not a young copper (who could claim to be unaware of the 7 day producer) so, as far as I was concerned he was lying. I’ve no idea if his colleague corrected him but full respect if he did. As I say, the other stops were all in good faith and polite.  :y

In 1978 just after I passed my driving test Iwas stopped by two coppers for having a tail light out.
Near the end of the conversation the Sarge then added that I had been speeding and he was doing me for it.
I knew I hadnt been speeding. I was in an HB Viva in thick fog on a road I had never seen before.
I told him this and they both just looked at me smugly and said its our word against yours.  >:(

1st April 2009 I was on two wheels on the M11, speed varying between 120 and 140.
A batenburged Volve came flying down the road behind me on blues & twos and when level pointed for me to pull over.
My life flashed before my eyes. I knew I was going to lose my licence.  :o
I had recently lost my job of 20 years which was close to home, but found another one 17 miles away, with no options for buses or trains for commuting.
After scaring the bejaysus out of me and informing me they had me at 125, the Copper had a bit of a chat and finished up with "this country is in a shit enough state these days without me taking a blokes livelyhood away from him. If you promise me you will slow down , I will call it 95 and you will get a £60 fine and three points. Are you happy with that ?"  :o
Needless to say I thanked him most profusely.

So it all balances out in the long run I suppose.  :)

…………….

We were reminiscing at my brother-in-laws recent funeral and his driving habits cropped up. Quite a few years back he got stopped by the police for having a tail light out and he told the copper “If you tap the light, it will come back on”.  So, the copper tapped the light and sure enough the tail light came back on. He then asked my brother-in-law “So, based on that, if I tap your windscreen will a tax disc appear”.    ::)
That made us smile remembering that.
