Haunted Interior Light
« on: 07 October 2025, 11:52:17 »

Hi All,

So just dropped the wife off at the train station, as she got out interior light come on like normal, however never went out..

Its now permanently on, (I've now taken the bulbs out) i thought maybe it was the door pin switch, however the door lights go on and off with the door opening and closing so makes me think its something else, I've took this out and cleaned it anyway but made no difference.

The headlight switch is pushed in. however the buttons on the light switch itself now don't do anything at all so the courtesy light no longer respond to the buttons either - could it be a dead circuit board on the light itself?

Has anyone come across anything similar before?

I'm not the only one to have experienced virtually the same symptons - combined with the 'key in' warning buzzer sound being rather strangled, interior light staying on but extinguishing with the sidelights on, central locking issues etc etc.
There are topics on this issue if you search on here.
Seemed to get worse during very wet weather.
With the advise of 'cam-in-head', plus a fair degree of head scratching, it was traced to a previous water ingress issue in the drivers kick panel area causing damage to the central locking ecu. Mine was primarily as a result of previous water ingress problem from a broken pipe from the offside sunroof drain  - the water was running across the headlining and behind the A pillar trim , down behind the door stay into drivers side footwell. Once I replaced the broken connector from the sunroof drain, I replaced the c/l ECU with a known used one with the pcb and transponders transfered to my existing fob, and everything has been fine since. No reprogramming is needed - only if a brand new ecu is fitted to use with your existing keys.
If yours has similar symptoms, and you change the ECU, then any replacement needs to be the same Ident lettering, as there are different ones relative to model /trim / alarm
It necessitated the headlining removal to adequately carry out the sunroof drain repair without damaging the headlining itself.
Whether water ingress is your cause has to be worth checking, especially with the recent wet weather we've been recently experiencing.... :y

it COULD be the light unit itself if you have one to swap it with and try but it is actually controlled by the central locking unit down in the side of the drivers footwell side and this and the associated wiring can get damp .however this issue can often cause problems with alarm activation or locking or a buzzing from the warning buzzer when it shouldnt .

*update*

So thanks lads for the pointers, ive pulled the kick panel off and check behind, dry as a bone, however disconnected everything and cleaned up all the connections just to rule that out.

The only thing i could find water in was the driverside door pin switch, so i stripped it apart dried it out and lathered it in WD40, i also cleaned off some of the blue corrosion on the earth point of the switch, the screw and also cleaned up the hole where the screw goes through. Doing this seems to have cured the audible buzzer sounding like it was dying. also the interior light seems to be behaving again...

Very odd, will see how long it lasts though

Thanks for your help boys  :y

It's not really that odd. If electrical components start getting damp and shorting/open circuiting, things are going to start misbehaving. We had an 18 month old Astra K with a design fault. The rear screen washer tubing ran down the passenger side A pillar, and had a joint in it which used to work loose. In the passenger side kick panel was a body control module, which got wet. It was Christmas time 🎉 Lights flashing all over the dash and a long list of faults on the info screen.

When reading original post, I was thinking a wet/knackered door switch on the door your wife use, or a wet alarm ECU.

So hopefully the door switch cures it.  Its possible the switch could be prone to water ingress, so might be worth replacing it, they are usually cheap enough.

Is it a Facelift?

Check how the 12V socket for the backseat is? Do you have 12 volt there permanently too?

If so there is a relay under and behind the dash that probably is damaged, it usually is the opposite that the lights don't go on even though the door contacts behave normally.

It is a bit hard to reach that relay but it is a normal on/off relay.

Search for K154 and you'll find more info about it.
