MOT for the Omega this morning.
« on: 17 December 2025, 11:06:30 »

Clean pass, no advisories. Not bad for 202000 miles and 23 years old.
Made my day tbh.  :) 8)

Nice one, Albs. Cars that age can become very expensive at MOT time  :y

If you can keep the rust at bay, they aren't a bad car to keep on the road, and lets face it, we know all their little issues.

Additionally, they are difficult to beat for comfort over very long trips.

Cut the rust out and welded new metal in during the summer, so that shouldnt be an issue for a while.  :y

exactly and that is why you will never get any mot  suprises .
personally with my own cars (omega, cavs, carlton, viva) they are all used in rotation all year round including winter commuting and every spring they all get a thorough wash off underneath and any issues sorted as and when found .this way i never worry about reliability or mot time .
as mentioned omegas are no worse than any other cars to keep up to and once the main rust areas are repaired or protected then corrosion shouldnt ever be an issue .

Yep...tin worm is nothing like as bad as it used to be.

Not sure how well a 1970 Viva would hold up though... ::)

Clearly better than the recent Viva, based on the fact you simply never see any now....

My first car was a 1970 Viva. It was 8 years old when my Dad bought it for me for £70, in the vain hope it would keep me away from motorbikes.
It had rust holes in the wings when I got it and the floor was a bit crusty too.
I think I went through two gearboxes and three or four clutches in a year, so could change a clutch in an hour by the end of it.
Thrashed it mercilessly - zero mechanical sympathy after Japanese two strokes - and finished it off in a banger race.
Old man wasnt too happy with me. He thought it would last me for years.  ;D

That explains a lot. Axle on mine was a noisy little bugger.  ;D
