With a heavy heart I am advertising my much loved Vauxhall Omega Elite 3.2 in Silver - KN03 XPG. I've owned him since 2023.

£1250.

It comes with all of the Elite toys, such as 6 x CD Changer, BOSE sound, heated leather memory seats, etc. I won't list it all because the chances are if you're reading this - you already know what you're looking at.

This is currently on 16 inch Omega CDX alloys, not 17 inch Elite ones. This is because when I bought the car, it had awful aftermarket Halfords-style alloys, and the Omega wheels (which I already had spare) are much smarter. I also prefer the ride of 16s.

I am an avid Omega enthusiast and skilled DIY mechanic, and purchased it to do a European road trip in an Omega (which we did!) driving down through France, Spain and Gibraltar. I have only ever used premium E5 fuel regardless of cost (Shell V power, 99 RON when I can get it). I’ve changed the oil and filter every 3,000 miles religiously.

The good bits

It's road legal and will effortlessly get you home - however far home is away. It is a pleasure to drive, and I would drive it to the south of Spain (again) tomorrow, with no worries at all.

The tyres are all safe, legal, and evenly worn across the tread. The fronts have more tread remaining than the rear, but none are near the wear markers.

The engine is sweet, and being the 3.2, is very-very powerful. If you use sport mode and / or kickdown, it goes like stink, and will easily overtake many modern cars. It also sounds fantastic. It does not lose any oil or coolant, neither is there any mixing or cross contamination of fluids.

I did a comprehensive, top-end overhaul on this engine when I first purchased the car in 2023 (See pictures). I knowingly purchased the car as running badly (timing belt had slipped for the previous owner) but there was no piston damage. So I fitted a fully refurbished pair of cylinder heads, with new valve stem seals.

The automatic transmission is also sweet, and changes smoothly throughout all of the gears, up and down the range, without any problems whatsoever. Absolutely no nasties such as thumping, juddering, slipping etc.

Handling is good, brakes, steering, etc all work as expected (although the brakes are nowhere near as sharp as modern cars)

Overall, the work (in the summer of 2023) included:

Refurbished Cylinder Heads
New head gaskets plus new stretch bolts for fitment
New timing belt KIT (all the pulleys/idlers and tensioner, not just the belt!) - set up correctly with the Sykes Pickavant locking/setting kit.
New water pump
New auxiliary belt tensioner pulley
New Thermostat
New Auxiliary Belt
New Dowty washers on the coolant bridge
All filters
A plethora of new gaskets - both exhaust manifolds, downpipes, both cam-covers and O rings, camshaft oil seals.
Replacement Oil and Antifreeze
Replacement Coolant
Full clean of crankcase breathers

The work was done meticulously, with everything very well cleaned, and correctly torqued. The cambelt kit interval on these is 40,000 miles or 4 years, whichever comes first. It's only done about 15,000 miles on the current kit, so you have comfortably until the summer of 2027 until you need to worry about the cambelt.

Locking wheel key is present. V5 in my name.

Vehicle has been on "My Naff Code Reader", and no fault codes whatsoever are stored in the ECU, TCM, SRS, ABS etc.

The not so good bits:

I will be honest, some TLC is needed. Not for any big, nasty problem, but rather a collection of niggly little bits which need sorting. These are, from the best of my memory:

Advisories on the previous MOT because some of the underneath is starting to look corroded. The tester commented that it's just discoloration at the moment, and that a clean up and some waxoil / lanoguard or similar would sort it. This was last April.

The rear offside arch is cosmetically very poor. It was like this at the last MOT, but the tester said it's not structural and therefore not a failure. The other arch is much better, but will need treatment to stop it developing like the other one.

The interior is very grubby and marked. The car is a daily workhorse and has transported kids, garden centre runs, etc. It needs a really good valet / going over on the inside. It's pretty manky. No tobacco smell though - it has never been smoked in.

The steering wheel audio control for increasing the volume doesn't always work as expected.

There is a coolant level warning and a brake pad warning on the display. This is caused by a faulty sensor in the header tank, and the fact I didn't receive a new wear-sensor when the new front pads were delivered. Both easily resolved.

The paint on the sunroof surround has started to come away.

The passenger side door card is loose at the top and needs refixing.

The buttons on the key don't lock or unlock the car. It has to be done manually. This means the indicators flash when the car is unlocked, until the ignition is turned on. There are two keys, but only one will start the car because the other doesn't have a transponder for the immobiliser.

There is a small exhaust blow. This is NOT corrosion or any failed components (the exhaust is stainless) - just that the cat-to-mid-section joint on the nearside needs re-sealing or tightening.

The boot-lid is a different colour, but I have the original bootlid as pictured, with Elite Spoiler attached. This is included in the sale. The area where the griffin would go, is rusty and needs rubbing down and spraying.

Paintwork is generally scruffy. There are scuffs / ripples on both bumpers. The rubber strip at the bottom of the rear doors (both sides) is coming away.

I haven't tried to conceal any of this at all, I took the pictures exactly as the car was today, after lots of winter running around.
The locking wheel key is present. There is a spare wheel with excellent, possibly unused tyre. I will change the rear brake pads before auction end because they are low. Front discs and pads were done in summer of 2024, as were wishbones and full geometry / alignment. Sadly I can’t find most receipts and history but the work was all documented on the Omega Owners Forum at the time - with many photos. The engine is bulletproof and will take you anywhere, but the car has always, from day one, coughed a little on a winter start. If you turn it off and immediately back on, it will run fine all day and drive you from Scotland to Poland. It’s been like this for the past 15,000 or so miles. It doesn’t concern me at all, but just adding for honesty sake. I must also repeat the interior is grubby… needs a really good valet as per pics. The boot carpet is also filthy. Car is in daily use (I’m enjoying every last day / mile!) so stated mileage will increase a tad.

4 x CD changer, not 6, sorry.

Never tried the satnav either - doubt it works  ;D
