2001 Omega 2.6 with AR25 and rear brake pipes off. Can I move selector from P to N just by pressing the brake pedal (ignition on), so does the system recognise hydraulic pressure somewhere or is there just a microswitch somewhere? I know there is a yellow clip under the cover to do this but just want to save time.

you only need to press the brake slightly until the solenoid releases .you MAY loose a bit of brake fluid but minimal ((alternately use the yellow lever as you mentioned)

In this scenario, ALWAYS use the manual override. It's what it's there for.

Thanks for comments, I will use the lever. My idea is not drive the car, just move/push it to another place. I am far away from it so I just want to prepare before I leave there. I have allways wondered where that switch is. Thought earlier that it is activated by hydraulic pressure when braking pedal pressed.

The solenoid lock on the gear lever is activated from the brake switch.

To use the lever, grab the forward part of leather gator and lift sharply, then rear of gator lifts out.  Yellow lever is now visible.  From memory, you press it down whilst moving lever, but it could be pull up (sorry, really can't remember!)
