cant unlock drivers door
« on: Today at 12:08:05 »

Re.  2003 estate.
I know this topic has been discussed  before but searching them i cant find the help i need.
So... drivers door using key unlocks all other doors and lifts the pin of the drivers door. but the door will not open from inside or out. turning key as hard as i dare c/w does not help.
so i have resorted to cutting the door card away and have some access to the lock itself , though its very awkward.
so the question is ..... is there a particular part i can try and get hold of and  move it physically to release it manually.
any other ideas welcome...

There is.

But you have to come up at it from underneath. Access is by way of removing the weather strip from the top of the door panel.

Remove the latch mechanism from the passenger door and study it.

You should then gain an understanding of how it works and what you need to get at.

Shredding the door card would be my last resort given the rapidly diminishing availability of spares.

Also, if you can, source a latch assembly for the right front door from a left hand drive car. (Less likely to have wear).

A couple of observations:

1.Does your driver's door weather strip have a split where it meets the window trim? This is how water gets on to the latch mechanism causing it to rust and bind up.

2.You might be able to salvage your mechanism but don't bank on it.

I got the same issue sometimes, even once we were two, driving with the elbow out of the window and I accidentally moved the pin down. When I moved it back up, all pins were up but the passenger door was impossible to open from inside or outside.

I opened the rear door and while closing and opening with the key fob in my right hand, I shaken the front pin with my left hand with hope it could unlock some sort of electro-mechanical things inside. Which eventually worked !

But then yeah, you need to investigate further.

On my side, I don't lock the car anymore, there is no need anyway where I live ;D
