I wish
« on: Today at 10:44:36 »

I was still able to maintain my car myself.

4 discs and pads, 3 tpms sensors £910.

At least it should pass the MOT in a couple of weeks.

it does seem expensive  ??? .... though a few years back now, MB 'only' quoted me £550 to replace the front discs & pads on my ML, the parts themselves were around £350

26K, yes it is the Astra.

It was 3 years old when I bought it, previous driver must have been a heavy braker.

Jeez! My Astra J had over 100K on it when I traded it, and my K had nearly 80,000. Both had the original discs.

The rip off, and I got a few quotes is that they charge twice.

Once for the discs + fitting and then a separate price for the pads + fitting.

I've tried to argue it's part of the same job to no avail, 5 different quotes.

The main dealer wanted £176 just to look at the TPMS system.

Rip off Britain.

I need to be 20 years younger.

I agree, discs and pads last me a lifetime.

I dont suppose theres a local OOFer who could help ?
That price seems obscene to me.  :(
As for TPMS. I would pull the fuse and just use my tyre pressure gauge, same as I have done for the last 50 years.  :)

You can't do that on a modern car. It would put a light on and fail the MOT

Madness. If you cant be arsed to check tyre pressures once a week you shouldnt be allowed a licence.  ::)

Christ alive that's a lot of money!

Have you tried the AA website? I used a random 2017 astra reg number (came back as 1.6 diesel) and they quoted £212 to do the fronts and £196 for the rears. Which I still think is a lot, but a big chunk less than you were quoted. You have the option of a man in a nice yellow van doing it on your drive too - which sounds better to me than sitting in a freezing cold waiting room drinking sh!t coffee.

LINK TO AA WEBSITE

Just for info, TPMS can be coded out for roughly £50 using a postal service (they send you a box to plug in, you do the update then send it back) so it will never appear again. Which would be my choice, like others I would argue that if you can't spot that your tyres are flat, you should hand back your licence.

LINK TO ONE SUCH SERVICE

Total for the work doing the above way would be £450 ish - much more palatable   :y
