It might help things if Trump would stick with one narrative instead of seemingly contradicting himself with every new statement. Giving the Iranians 48hrs to open up the straits, but "winding down" operations yet sending more men to the region and so he goes on round and round.

Given the type of assets being deployed this weekend, It looks to me like the Orange One is preparing to capture someone or something. There is a theory going around that they're going to try and take some of the islands in the Straits of Hormuz, and setup some anti drone defences on them.. If so, what could possibly go wrong?

He hasn't done anything that he wasn't already planning to do.

If the Islamic Guard do anything on the meantime then it confirms that their out of line and off it goes again. If they actually negotiate then they've failed.

It's a bit of a clever play because it appeases the rest of the world whilst giving the IRGC the chance to back down, which obviously they won't as it would be to admit weakness and be humiliating.

Not quite check mate, but they're definitely in a corner.

Launcing missiles at Diego Garcia was a significant tactical error on their part.

I've said it before but if it were Obama doing this it would be a the epitome of tactical mastery, but because it's Donald,... ::)

He gave Iran an ultimatum at the weekend that if they didn't open the Straight of Hormuz, he would bomb their power stations.

Iran responded that if he bombed their power stations, they would bomb their neighbours power stations in response.

This morning Trumpy Trump 'postponed' bombing Irans power stations saying there had been 'productive conversations'.

Iran say there have been no conversations and as far as I can tell the Straight of Hormuz is still closed.

Meanwhile, Brent Crude has dumped from around $110 a barrel to $94.50 and all the NYSE indices are all up by over 2.5%. There's people out there making a killing and there are plenty of accusations of market manipulation and insider trading flying around!   ::)

If I had a suspicious mind I might think that a certain prominant US family's net worth has gone up substantially today.  :-X

Indeed. The iranians are, in fact, saying Donald shit himself when he realised what he'd said, and he backed down. Now we'll have to see if he paps himself again when his five day deadline is up. Or if he makes up some more jackanory that can't be verified.

This is more like it:

Donald Trump says the US and Iran have held talks on the "complete and total resolution of hostilities" in the Middle East
He says that, as a result of the talks, he has postponed threatened strikes on Iranian power plants for five days - oil and gas prices fall immediately
However, Iran's parliament speaker denies talks have taken place with the US and says "fake news" is being used to "manipulate" the oil markets

Just been watching Trump on tv, and I seriously believe he is living in a fantasy world. How can he make statements with such authority, as if they are irrefutable, when it's obvious they are just a pack of lies. He's a very dangerous individual.
