The Avenger was (imo) an under rated alternative to the escort.had 2 of them, they ciuld be made to go/handle quite well with a bit of work.
3 litre Capri imo was a very over rated car.not that quick and handled like a barge.

My mum had a good estate and I owned a hatch variant.

Handling was fantastic, especially with wider tyres and forest springs

I raced a 2.0 Capri with a 1.6 Avenger estate and it was a draw, my dad beat an XR3i with the same car

An Avenger....was it the twin carb?

An engine I know more about than you!!!!

there were 4 different 1600s!
The mighty stromberg !  ;) ;D

As I had no money I bought a S/H pair for my Sunbeam - still got over 90bhp at the wheels with them, rebuiilt them a few times to get them right. THe needles have been changed and filed to get the right mixture and £20 cash in hand for the rolling road owner!

spax adjustables on the rear/strengthened lower arms/uprated konis at the front -stuck like $h1t to a blanket, and very controllable/predictable when grip was exceeded. :y

yeah, pretty sure the Tigers were all 1600. Ialmost bought a Sunbeam ti, but came across a 6 month old HS and had that instead.
Maybe we will have to form the OAOF (old avengers owners forum) ;D ;D

Forest springs standard height but a lot stiffer, Leda front struts, 2" bore rally exhaust, Kent FR3 cam, twin Strombergs (rolling road set up) K&N filters, first rebore, 60thou head skim, slight porting, 3.54 or 3.7 axle (I blew the 3.54), close ratio Avenger 1500 gearbox, GLS rear screen, GLS door pockets and door trims, refitted with rev counter clocks

Did about 50,000 miles in it

That was it, then I kept it for three years not sure what to do, then it was trailered to work and was to be converted to grass track, then the building owners let that section out, and it was moved somewhere in Inkberrow and I lost it :'( :'( :'( :'(
