Another x25xe cambelt question
« on: 10 May 2026, 15:46:43 »

Having already successfully done a belt change on my '97 R Tourer a few years back I'm now doing the belt on latest 98'R Tourer and I'm having problems with the timing marks. The tensioner I took off was the EB type and the belt a gm 9128500.
My question is as long as the marks on the actual cams and crank line up with those on the engine does it matter if the corresponding white lines on the new belt don't.
Thanks John.

As long as you've locked it off properly and yes, as long as the marks on the engine line up, don't worry about the belt marks. Spin it over twice by hand and recheck to be sure. :y

……….

Thanks John.

As mentioned, once the engine has been turned by hand through a couple of complete rotations, the crank/cam positions checked and double checked and the tension checked, the lines on the belt won’t line up anyway.  :y  Some find the lines annoying or misleading.
Is the replacement backplate the same as the one you removed, as you can swap the new idlers over if it helps your set up.
