The FA netted a cool $29 million for coming third in the World Cup.  Might just about have covered the cost of taking part? 

Spain got $50m for winning. The cheating Argie Bargies got $33m for 2nd and the French Froggies got $27m for 4th.

I remember before the 1994 World Cup in the US the American TV companies tried hard to get the four quarters format so they could get their adverts in, but FIFA stood their ground and said no it a game of two halves!
