Clacton By-election.
« on: 08 July 2026, 11:21:56 »

I don't think this will play out as Reform hope....

None of the established political parties seem remotely interested, so it looks like a straight fight between Farage and Count Binface.

Bit of a farce really. :-\

Its his latest move in the game of chess that he and the political establishment play.
He hates them and they hate him.
They are very determined that he should never be in a position to become PM and will do anything to to stop him.
That is their worst nightmare. He will go to great lengths to derail their comfy gravy train and they know it.
If he was some non entity back bencher, none of this would be happening.
Only time will tell what effect his latest move will have.

He hasn't resigned yet (despite him saying immediatley), which means the writ for the By-election hasn't been posted, and the parlimentary standards inquiry into his affairs continues.

I think he would be better served  if he kept his powder dry.

Wait until the £5M is deemed 'iffy' of not.

He he comes out on the wrong side of the decision then call the by-election, and leave his fate up to the people of Clacton.

You may be right, time will tell I suppose.
If the other parties thought they had a decent chance of winning the seat, they would stand and throw the kitchen sink at it to beat him.
As for Starmer saying that Farage is mired in sleaze !
Thats one for the "you couldnt make it up" category. His Govt. has been mired in sleaze since about a week after coming to power.  ::)

They'll vote for him on what he's done for them as an MP, not because of anything Sky News thinks  ;)

That is where the two tier free gear Keir came from.

I really wish he would just f*uck off.

Let the coronation of the new messiah begin. :-X :-\

Problem is I don't think Farage spends much of his time in sunny Clacton. ::)

He could end up with a reduced majority.......a case of 'be careful what you wish for'.

What difference does a reduced majority make in a first past the post election

If he resigns, the parliamentary inquiry into his finances stops.

If he is then re-elected, then the inquiry starts again. If found guilty, then depending what sanction is applied, a parliamentary recall vote could be triggered. If that happens then yet another by-election happens and he can stand in that too.

Lots of ifs and buts, however it's entirely possible for there to be 2 by elections in Clacton this year, with Farrage winning both. Or he could just wait to see what the outcome of the inquiry is because if he is as innocent as he claims, none of this is necessary.

It's the perception he will be seen as starting to fail and falter, rather than flying high.

Just not a good look.

That assumes the process, and those involved in it, are trustworthy and above reproach.
Its the dirty game of Politics we are talking about though.
