Can't get Vision BTs USP is out.

So avoid BT, Carphone Warehouse, Virgin unless you want to be tracked
Zen is supposed to be good

What do you mean by tracked Martin?
Martin Imber has a bee in his bonnet over Phorn, an ad service operated at the ISP level

I'm not the only one, the only reason it isn't banned is due to the government wanting a back door into everyones browsing history.

Where shared logins are used if someone say surfed porn, even if they cleaned up afterwards with internet history and cookies ect the ad server could decide the child using it next wants to buy porn.

(used porn as an extreme example)
You'd be surprised what ISPs record, ignoring ad tracking for a mo  :-X

I wouldn't - I expect they know every site I have visited, and I know that the info can be used by law enforment agencies.

I also know there are ways around this, but I would only use them for something embarrasing
Depends exactly which bits you are talking about.  Some cannot be bypassed...

Additionally, think of what websites collect about you. We (OOF) don't actively collect info, but I can tell you a fair amount about your system, such as OS, browser, service packs (indirectly, likely vulnerabilities).  With a small number of mods, we could collect more in depth info about your system, including username.  Seeing as many XP users don't use a password, and make themselves Admins, we have the info to get into your system to play silly buggers.

Be more worried about where you visit, rather than what your ISP collects (unless its illegal, as ISPs are more tied to authorities).

I am careful where I visit and erm no pass word on the home PC, the router has a firewall and I run a software firewall as well (which I may dump).

(not that i think govt takes any notice of these petitions and probably uses the data in some clandestine maner instead :-/)

Many sites don't allow anonymouse proxies.

OOF doesn't block them, but may not work too well with proxy clusters - you'll hit a spam filter instead.

Oh, and for info, anonymous proxies can get round all attempts to track users (without making the surfing experience unusable).

Getting that information is not easy.  I can quote specifics for one group of companies if I wasn't under NDA.

But they all collect a certain amount of personally identifiable by law, based around sites, emails, nntp.  ISP will also likely collect stats from RADIUS system for billing/usage/online times purposes.

all internet providers track all downloads and up loads and can even trace what web sites up have been on to
all this is done by your i.p address
your i.p address holds info like the area your in and your internet provider and if done right people can even use your i.p address to get into your computer and not only view what you are seeing on your computer screen they can even add virus's and delete file from your computer
(mainly in the system32 file) this is where the main info to your computer is held that file is your main operating system file

ive done it myself by hacking wireless routers in my area
with the right software you can easily enter the computer files on the other computer without them even knowing you are in there computer

going on to viewing sites anonymously
there is a program called i.p hide or something like that which blocks internet sites from seeing your i.p address but alot of sites will not allow you on there sites

you can also check your download and upload speed to see if you are getting what you pay for by going to
www.speedtest.net and click on your local area that is closest

Its impossible to surf the web without exposing your IP somewhere, either to the site you're visiting, or to the anonymous proxy.  Something out in the big wide internet needs to know your IP to be able to send the results of the request back to, and as all web traffic is tcp based, a conversation handshake has to take place before any transfer can take place.

Anonymous proxies can hide your address from the web site owner (though there are easy ways around this), but you need to trust the anonymous proxy - somebody somewhere has to pay for that service, and often its advertising companies  :-X
