To me, it does make a difference in cars with an existing sufficiency of horsepower to show a significant % improvement.  If there are only 50 horses under the bonnet and a 3% improvement is available, its debatable whether the extra 1.5 horses will show.    

I also consider that the detergent properties of the Optimax/whatever fuel balances with the cost of adding Redex or similar injector cleaner on a regular basis into supermarket fuel.

There was a distinct increase in available power, clean/smoother  idling and sharper response when I used the Shell equivilant in my MV6.

My company sled goes from 34mpg on Shell 95 to 37mpg on V-power on the motorway.  Seems pretty clear to me!

Yeah. But surely the additional mpg is cancelled out by the extra £sd.

The more the price of fuel goes up the less this is true.  There is currently a 5.4% premium on V-power near me, but that is an 8.8% increase in fuel economy.  Like others say though, it completely depends on the car.  I run 95 in the miggy.

strange that my diesel runs better on the super diesel with less smoke and better mpg!!
also any opetrol car will not immediately get the benefit of super unleaded, it will need at least 2 tankfuls to show any improvement
properly, so people just put a tankful in after running around on supermarket petrol for years before then claim the super made no flaming difference and is rubbish!!
but if you take 2 identical 3 litre omegas one which has run on super for 30,000 and one which has run on 95 for the same miles would bet money the super one runs better has more power to use and returns more to the gallon
