I wonder if you guys can help me out  i am looking for some uprated  bits for my omega  such as

1. performance brake discs and pads  (front and rear)  brake fade is not something i enjoy and i would rather think about it now that after a brown underwear moment.

2 exhaust and performance cats   i dont want an iraqi supergun for an exhaust tho  just something that sounds nice and looks decent (low profile would be nice tho)
 i WILL not run a car without a cat for enviromental reasons  (its bad enough i run a 26mpg car) but would like one thats less restrictive

3 suspension  i have stock omega cd suspension i would like to beef it up a little and perhaps lower it  without loosing too much of the nice ride i have just now  i have thought about changing to mv6 set up and i recon it would be less harsh than the after market setups?

a there is not a huge range of parts out there for the omegas i thought the best place to ask was on here

Brakes: I've heard good things about EBC red stuff pads for track use but for road use I honestly think you'd have to be going some for the standard setup to let you down!

Exhaust: I love my Jetex! Mine is cats back but they do sports cats as well, off the shelf and delivered in a couple of days.

Suspension: I'd fit MV6 suspension to my Elite if I wanted to firm it up a bit. Good time to check out the condition of the wishbones, track rods, camber angle etc as you might end up fitting new legs and still having the front end wander a bit if the wishbones are past their best.

Oh yeah, about those 3 litre cams: Matthew House's 2.5 estate has 3.0 cams and a few other mods and it made 215 bhp on the rollers at the Autobahnstormers rolling road, on a day when many people were getting lower readings than expected. So I know he'd recommend them!

aye he got them off me !! deffo best upgrade for a 2.5 ! 4.0 bar fuel pressure reg and k&n panel filter stainless exh from cat back !
i have used red stuff pads and very good bit you will struggle to fade gen vx brakes fella !!  :y

stick with MV6 shocks, they were designed by Vx/Opel for :
police heavy loads, hearses, ambulances and armoured vehicles.

The problem with aftermarket lowered springs is that they are normally shot peened and hardened, which gives them their properties, and/or progressively wound - neither of which makes them last.

MV6 fronts are 110 a side + vat and rears 42+vat on trade card.

Springs - pray for someone scrapping an MV6! - unless you know the car is yours for life, as the Vx springs are seriously expensive!

F Springs £155.43 (pair)
R Springs £208.14 (pair)

Braking: look to the thread about Pontiac GTO Brakes on a Catera for a straight fit or alternatively you could do no worse than looking at something like the brembo 4 pot installs on big mercs and BMW's and getting an engineering company to make you a mounting plate for them.

Or if you want to spend some cash, Willwood will happily relieve you of your cash, and i'm sure that brembo have a prepackaged disk and calliper uprate solution.

migs GM OEM Brakes are good enough since replacing myn with new ones ive never overheated them stick to well established brands GM or Mintex GM also do Police spec pads for the MV6 i bought a set for myn and they are very difficult to get into the calliper as they have alot of meat on them

I've been through a full set of EBC grooved discs, and they were crap!

Cracked to bits in less than 10,000 miles!

Changed to Black Diamond grooved and drilled, these lasted about 25000 miles, now on a set of grooved and drilled from e-bay, so far (about 5K) seem ok.

Always stuck with green stuff pads, mainly due to the very low amounts of brake dust created.

As for lowering the best way is Irmscher springs, if you can find a set, but keep looking as i got a brand new set off e-bay for considerably less than £100!!

Alternatively go for an aftermarket set of springs or a fully adjustable coil over set up  :)

Exhaust wise, i went Powerflow, but a custom system is not that much more than a GM OEM one plus you get to 'tweak' the sound how you want it

Try this lot for aftermarket bits  Motorsports World (option for car specific search)

Very helpfull and fairly cheap


Best engine mod to a 2.5 is sell the car and buy a 3ltr! By far the cheapest way of getting a reliable increase for very little expenditure  ;)

also forgot to say again the omegas exhaust is ample and it seems to annoy the EMS dont know why but without the standard zorst my car missfires and hunts on idle

and changing it will land may well land you with a S59a Anti Social Use Of a Vehicle Order & a £30 FPN for Excessive Noise and the rozzers will also call your insurers to make sure you have declared it

The standard Omega zorst is pretty free flowing, the most restrictive part is the fannymolds. They sound good and last well, unlike some pattern which sound crap and don't last long.

Nope and in reality they do bugger all on the Omega, they help slightly on the Vectra but that has a crap inlet setup!

Only really needed if your reaching the peek flow rate of the injectors which you will be hard pushed to do on the V6 and the extra pressure can worsen the spray pattern!

Brakes - for road use, unless you really are ragging it everywhere, the GM stuff is plenty good enough.  I'm not shy when it comes to braking, and I can (just) get across roundabout city (Milton Keynes - a roundabout about every half mile on 70mph dual carriageway) before they fade.

Exhaust - it would appear the manifold is probably more restrictive than the rest of the system

Suspension - if you are used to FWD cars, the Omega may feel soft, as it doesn't need the rock hard suspension to get its power down.  That said, I find the Elites a bit too soft, and prefer my MV6 suspension.  Bilstein do some good shocks at good prices from some suppliers.

Yes I certainly would recommend them!

I'm fairly certain that it was on this forum that using bigger cams was suggested as a way to start performance mods.

I also got my air intake box modified and use a reusable filter.

I'm currently on Courtenay grooved discs and their 'fast road' pads - they said they use padgid but you can clearly see Ferrodo on them.
They work fine.

(My first change was EBC and Red stuff (by Hispec at Dartford). An absolute waste of time and money - never again!)

I also put on an enlarged exhaust manifold and have a stainless system with 'sports' cats (200 psi instead of the regular 400 psi).
Lightening the flywheel is something else some folk swear by (I cant on an automatic) but the jury is out for some people as far as that goes.

As Alex said all this contributed to 215 on the roller with ABS which pleased me for a 2.5!

I will probably convert to a manual gearbox in the near future but will have to see.......
