Its Dreaded Doom Day
« on: 18 December 2006, 10:35:25 »

Y`know the one guys.....where you pace up and down hoping and fearing at the same time......

MOT day !!!

Car is away and i am at work so i am awaiting a call.....

i know the handbrake is suspect and perhaps some of the infamous omega weak spots...wishbones etc as it has a slight pull.

But then again its done 2000miles since its last mot and it got an advisory for a tyre then (which has been changed)

Heres hoping  :y

its failed  :'(

requires new front discs and pads

Got them already at tc price and there being fitted for £40. Retest this afternoon.

So i suppose its a good sign.

Dilemma - i had promised her a new VX Go battery and some spanking new registration plates if she passed.

Think she still deserves them?  :-/

Did you stipulate 'If it passes 1st time'?
If not, you've gotta shell out!

Tough call, Markie.  Mine was the same.  I knew it was neding tyres x 4 and both front suspensions arms - bought the arms some weeks ago but still not getting to fit them myself......  It actually only failed on the steering idler.  That, hopefully, should be delivered today then its away for repair and retest in the morning.

I would still get the new battery and the plates for your steed.  Its as cold as a witches heart round my way today and the longer forecast is cold, to say the least.  The steed will need a wee bit of flattery to ensure it delivers over the next few (cold) weeks...   :y
(bit like my wife, really.  Good job she is at work and can't see this...    ;D  )

Think your right Broocie!!

think she will get her christmas treat. ::)

i have now owned her two years and thats her third MOT - ONLY things i have had to do in that time are tyres, brakes and service. Not one single thing outwith this!!!

Heres hoping she stays that way.

Good luck with your re-test this afternoon, my car is booked in for the first week of January, that is a story on its own, went to place it in for its mot at vauxhall main dealers and walked out again, when i bought the car it came with the next 3 mot's only pay the fee, if it goes down they do the repairs  for free. Well after finding out all the prices ie needs a major service and whilst going over the service checks if anything requires changing this will be done before the MOT i thought no way, so have booked it in with my usual garage and they will be do the service for me. I also asked whilst there, how much the service for my wifes corsa that we bought from new in April,  only have done about 2500k by then as it is on 1700k at this moment they said £285. I think I am correct you can take your car to another garage and have the book stamped to keep the garantee running. I thought the first one was free.... ohh well.

If you want a cheap(er) service, and still a Vauxhall Stamp in the book, ask your dealer how much a 'Masterfit' service is ;)

Ok car ready. Discs and pads fitted for £40 by my mechanic mate - got parts at trade price ( i have the book and card)

What worries me though was that i felt no issues or pulling under breaking - and no deteriation.

Looking at the discs they were perfect on the outside.

However they seem to have deteriated very badly on the inside rather than the outside.

I am still at work but John my mechanic always keeps the parts for me to inspect.

In short ive never seen this before what could cause it ? Is there perhaps an underlying issue?

Anyway new 1 year mot  :y

May try to sell it now with its private plate and fsh for a newer MV6 or 7 series  :P

Sticky caliper etc, so pads not biting properly on inside?

I saw something similar on Tunnie's car, but that looked like some muppet had fitted wrong pads at some time.
