This makes me sooooo mad
« on: 16 October 2008, 08:21:03 »

Listening on the radio today to an advertisment for a firm of solicitors who were implying that they could reduce/quash your motoring conviction, even Drink driving  >:( >:(

So i had a look at their website www.keepmedriving.co.uk

some quotes from the site

Quote
It is vital therefore that you contact keepmedrivingat the first opportunity so that we can start to take the necessary action to examine the procedural steps taken by the police and to ascertain whether we can find reasons for the matter to be withdrawn or so that an appropriate defence or mitigation can be mounted

Quote
Even if there is no defence which we can run, you may still be able to mount a mitigation which could reduce not only the period of disqualification but also the other penalties which could be imposed and keepmedriving can assist you with this.

Now i'm sorry but taking drinking and driving as an example, i have very little tolerance for it, the potential for damage is massive and the consiquenses can be fatal, i know there are times when there may be 'mitigating circumstanses' but the way they are talking is they appeal every decision irrespective of reason.

And as for finding a 'procedural error' that sucks, if you are caught behine the wheel of a car drunk then you should face up and do the punishment.

The radio ad was targeting those people who drive or who rely on their licence as a form of income, to me that puts them in the catagory of 'professional drivers' due to the nature of their occupation i would then say that they, more than anyone, should know the risks and so not do it.....

It's things like this that make me mad and i believe corrupt the whole system, if these guys can get me off a speeding fine or a drink driving conviction what has been learnt from this? Nothing aside from the law is useless and there are ways round it!!! so where is the incentive not to do it again.....

Rant over......soapbox packed away  :-X

How someone can make a living from this is beyond me - there are so many horrendous accidents involving drink drivers and they must face the consequences - its black and white to me.

whilst i agree with the sentiments expressed regarding drink driving, the problem is that due to government policy it is now the norm to collect tax for all sorts of minor infractions,ie 31 in a 30 etc.therefore fighting these things with technicalities is now standard practice.the law has become an ass

Point taken....

But if i drive at 31 then i am breaking the law, in my naive state of mine i would expect to be repremanded in a verbal way for that, and i would take it on the chin.
35 in a 30 would earn me points and a fine, again i accept that and under normal circumstances would take the fine/points and learn from it.

I know there there are hardliners out there who would love to have people fined/points given for 31 in a 33 legally i don't believe this can be done (please correct me if i am wrong)

i speed, i'll admit it, not because i am bragging but because it is a fact, if i drove hime tonight and got caught doung 80 on the motorway then i would take it like a man not go running off to someone in the hope that i can 'dodge' the penalty

We seem to be creating a culture of not facing up to our responsibilities, this leaving someone else to puick up the pieces (current financial climate is another example of this)

Solicitors are crooks............my old Gran used to refer to them as "thugs in pinstripe suits"
Most of them (but not all)are more bent than the scum bags they try to defend.

Everyone has a right to a defence..........and rightly so...in some ways I feel sorry for the genuine solicitors who try to do the right and honest thing.
They are few in number. :-/ :-/ :y

and i agree, if you have a genuine reason for needing a defence that is where a good solicitor is worth their weight in gold.....

It's the ambulance chasers and the likes of that have given then a bad name now

This "no responsibilty / no consequence" culture is creeping into society at all levels.

In these instances -- you know the law -- you break it -- if you get caught, take it on the chin -- it's your own fault, not the coppers / speed camera / government ...........

However, on the drink/drive front I am zero tolerant  >:(
