Just reading through the above thread and wondered how many of you still have train sets.

I was born in 1961 and my Mum and Dad from what I gather bought me a train set shortly after.

This was a hornby Britannia steam loco with 3 Pullman coacheds and the Royal Mail coach with working sack catchers and the Loco developed real smoke.  For sentimentall reasons I still have the Loco and the coaches/post truck, but I sold miles of track and building that I had colleced when I was 18 (Big Mistake)

Getting rid of the track when you did is probably not a bad thing as it would most likely have been steel which rusts and causes running issues.

The latest nickel silver track is much better  :y

A couple of Christmasses ago I was staying with my cousin in Norwich. It so happened that his business had an empty industrial unit so we pooled all the Scalextric sets in the family and friends and created a huge track. Straight must have been 50 metres long!

My dad made me a train set for my 4th birthday.

Born in 1960 .I was a Scalextric kid.
Red mini's with white roofs......monte carlo colours.
Train sets far too slow for me at that time......although I remember having great fun playing with my best friends "Dads" set in his loft, it was huge with mountains and tunnels, signal box etc etc.
My frinds father would blow a whistle to get the trains going.....whilst wearing his station masters cap..........is that sad?. :y :y

I had quite a few train sets handed to me when my father-in-law moved house, he had a complete set up in his loft.
As he had no room to set it all up again and also he had given up with it all because of his age it all got packed away and forgotten about.
When I took ownership I set a couple of them up for my son but he was not really interested in them, cars more his thing.
So they sat in my loft for years before I eventually took a couple of engines to a train collectors fair and they gave me a price of what they considered they were worth.
Anyway 3 years ago I took it upon myself to clear the loft and sell whatever was up there, train sets and all.
What a big suprise that was, they sold very quickly on ebay (wish I had more to sell) I didn't think trains were still as popular.
They were mainly Hornby and Lima.
And I think most went to older men and collectors as well.

.... have only girls, hence no train set at present  ;D

Did try to entice them with scalextric during Christmas a few of years ago, but with only limited success. Had to take it out in January due to space limitations, never built the track since...  :'( :'(
