M6 smash 6 dead
« on: 21 October 2008, 19:45:38 »

Just wanted to say how shocked and saddened I was to read about the 6 members of the Statham family from Llandudno who were killed in a terrible smash on the M6 last night.

The father was 38, the mum 33, and the children were 13yrs, 9yrs, 20 months and 10 weeks.

As a husband and also a father of 2 young lads I find this kind of incident extremely upsetting, and my heart goes out to the other members of the family who had just been visited by the Stathams on their day out.

Dont want to speculate about what happened, just wanted to express my sadness and may they all rest in peace.

Absolutely shocking.

 :(

sad news indeed...

But it wouldn't suprise me if the case dragged and dragged, in which time the portugese lorry driver who has been arrested and charged for causing death by dangerous, will go back to portugal when bailed and then thats the last you will hear of it...

but i reckon, being foreign, most they will get (if actually properly convicted) will be a 3 year suspended sentence, or just deported...

Heard about this on the news.Hard to comprehend something as bad as this...Grandparents probably feel completely bereft after such an accident. :'(

My heart goes out to all involved. Terrible, terrible thing to happen. The only solace is that mum, dad, and kids are all together. R.I.P

I've heard this progress through the day. Really terrible news, as Optimist says there are also 2 sets of grieving parents who have lost a son or daughter & 4 grand kids. Horrible way for the family to die too.

Now for the spooky part, the truck was carrying urgent parts for my firm...

Spent most of today trying to source replacments

Been a odd day to say the less

Just terrible!! :'( :'( :'(

May God let them all rest in peace together in a far better world along with helping the grandparents, other relatives and friends all somehow cope with their grief. :'( :'( :'(

What more can be said apart from praying also for the members of the emergency services who had to deal with this. :( :( :(

Good thought, Lizzie ...... I get really churned up when kids are involved. I guess there will be a few sleepless nights for the Emergency Services personnel too.

A sad sad situation, and these things always seem to happen in the run up to Christmas. My thoughts are with the family they left behind, particuarly the grandparents they had visited that day. :(

I see also they have arrested a foreign truck driver , accidents on our motorways are more likely to be caused by a foreign trucker than anyone else according to statistics :(

Regardless of who was to blame, a number of innocent lives have been taken away. Very sad - may they rest in peace.

I am sure that most of our thoughts and prayers are with any relatives or friends who have lost loved ones through this tragedy, and equally with any Ambulance, medical, Highways agency officers, Police Officers, or any other personnell who assisted with this situation, who will undoubtedly be having unpleasant thoughts about it all.

As a reasonably new voluntary Police Officer I am yet to attend an RTC, although when I witnessed a crash in 2007 I assisted, and it wasn't a nice experience at all.

If I'm honest, the thought of encountering seriously injured and dead people under such circumstance frightens me - and I am not at all looking forward to it - but the day will come.

On the flipside, the motivation to keep going, is that if one life is saved, it is all worthwhile :y

RIP all concerned.
