Travel tax - the petition
« on: 19 December 2006, 15:46:23 »

I received the following by e-mail today. I've heard talk about this but never believed they would really introduce it, BUT............read on

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website.

Sign and pass it on. it only takes a minute.

Sounds horrendous!! :o :o

They've been sounding serious about it for a while.  If not that, then they want to put a chip in your number plate and readers on all of the roads.  I'm enjoying the UK while I can, because I'm offski when this type of big brother cr@p comes into effect.  It's not the money that bothers me so much, it's the surveillance.  Got a while yet in the states, and then I'm off to live in Bolivia I guess  ::)

I must admit i have  no objection to limiters fitted to cars/buses lorries etc. to come on automatically  in 30 or 20 mph speed zone, seen to many accident from speeders out side schools and shops, so  long as they come off once you leave 30mph zone, but this just goes to far. Even George Orwell couldn't have forseen this. Of course i'll sign it. >:(
