Looks good,

but what level of photograpy you wanting to go to?

For a lot less money you can get a "bridge" camera, basicly the funtions of a SLR but with a fixed lens.

Have a look on the Talk Photograpy forums, there a big help, it's where I went before getting my gear

no experience of that particular camera, but you want to get a bigger lens than that.

14-42 just won't cut it...

Ideal world you want 18-200 but they are tad pricey.

I have a Nikon D80 with a 18-135mm, that does the job for most situations.

Most cameras do the job as long as they come with a decent PC programme,IMO.Have a Kodak on my puter that will recognise and accept any camera and download the photos.Very happy with it.

It comes with 2 lenses! 14-42mm and a 40-150mm  :y

I was also looking at a Nikon D60 too (same price)

I'm on the lookout for a Sony Alpha seies DSLR to replace my old Minolta Dynax 700si SLR 35mm as the lens mounts are the same and I can use my collection of lenses :y

Nikons are well built and take great photos.

Loony - 100 squid camera never takes the picture when you want it to, SLR takes it the instant you press the button. You get a lot more control too.

However point and shoots are great!

I Dunno! I keep trying to take photos with my digi cam, and its just not having it! (its 8 years old! only 3.1mp, with a 28-84mm lens!) Today I was at an Autograss meet, and the photos are rubbish! Tried a load of different settings, but still no joy.

I'm enjoy taking photos, and need something thats going to last a few years, and something that works well in low light, just love night shots!

Last day I had my GSi on the road, I went and took some night shots of it outside York Minster... or should I say 'Attempted'.  Took a boat load of photos, and this was the best one  :-[ :

Maybe its not THAT bad, but its still crap!

If you are set on a DSLR, the Nikon D40 has very good reviews.

I have to say that my move from a fixed lens Coolpix 5700 to my current D80 has made photography a lot more natural. I don't feel like there's a camera between me and the picture that I want to take nearly as often.

The 5700 was a good camera, without doubt. But the D80 was worth the cost for the upgrade.

Ken Rockwell can come accross as opinionated but he does give fairly straight advice.

If you are going for a DSLR, I would save a few extra pennies and get a Canon or Nikon, you then have the biggest possible selection of lenses and accessories, which you may not get so much with one of the smaller brands.

Ive got a canon one, bit old now, but have absolultly no desire to swap it.

I like a DSLR and a Super compact, cover all bases then.

Before that had a prosumer, or bridge camera, which was very good, but I outgrew it.

Well i took my pictures today with a camera that cost less that £80 and i think they look great, maybe not what you would want if you did it for a job but plenty good enough for what i want :y
