Classic migs
« on: 24 October 2008, 15:58:17 »

I am a big fan of classic cars and I am just wondering how many migs will reach the status of classics?
I read practical classics  and admire these geezers for keeping the older cars on the road. They do it for the love of it despite the costs.
(expensive and time consuming hobby).
Having bought my mig a month ago and joining the forum I have found that the cars have little value but are well maintained to the point that the repairs are sometimes more than the cars are worth.
Also I have found that the owners are just as enthusiatic as the classic car owners.
I bought my mig because I need an estate car for my dog and for towing with a bit of oomph. I looked at all other makes, Toyota, ford, nissan etc etc but none matched the reliability of the bodywork  and comfort for the price I paid, so I am willing to get the mechanics up to scratch in the hope the car will last for another few years yet
So keep up the good work and keep the migs rolling.

Senators already have achieved cult status.

I would say 5 years the supply of MV6 and Elite in VGC will almost dry up.

10 years time Elite MV6 will be worth more than they are now.

The big V6s will achieve it, and sooner than 20 years.

Could this be a reason for them to reach classic status ? does it mean there will be a plentiful supply of parts to keep them running for many years ?

The oldest mig is allready 14 years old (I think 1994) so only 6 years to go. I would like to think mine is in good enough condition today to easily reach 20+ years old.

Just my useless opinion.  :)

Mike

P.S. the better we look after them today, the more likely they will be around in the future.

IIRC someone on here a while ago said that Vauxhall aren't making any more parts for the Omega & what we have will have to do

Vauxhall don't make parts....

Legally they have to supply parts for 10 years after the last one rolled off the production line.

Indeed, and also many parts for Omega's are common to the Vauxhall range are they not? :-/ :-/

I was only thinking today (no, I really was!! ::) ::) ;D) that my current miggy is one I will keep until I stop driving, baring accidents of course, and even if I buy another next year.

I deeply regret parting with my Senny (in 1998, and even the Carlton's I had owned before (one a 1986 model that we - my ex-husband -  traded in for a Corsa we had for 5 minutes in 1998!!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)  The Senny in particular would have been a definate "classis car".

Why is it we continually move on to 'newer' models, when you love what you have and want to keep it long term?  Especially the big engined Vauxhall's!

The only reason i bought my Mig was i couldn't easily get parts for the Diesel Rover 800.
So i bought a late Mig so she'd last me many years :y

I think that the 24valve Senator with "cheesecutter grill" is/will become a prized classic.....Mint condition Omega Elite also may get the respect they deserve as time passes....as for the 4 cylinder omega.....Oh dear...sorry..but I think not. :y :y :y
