Petrol down again!
« on: 24 October 2008, 07:10:51 »

On the news this morning that Asda are cutting petrol to 95.9 and guaranteeing it for minimum 10 days :y :y :y

Even better... My local garage has finally reduced LPG
by 2p to 57.9... It's getting there but still a bit high for my liking! ::) ::)

I saw this on the news this morning. They said they've spent all the surplus cash they had, sounds like a certain government we all know >:( Maybe they should take out a loan (every one else does)

I remember when they still had the old style pumps and they had to change them to show half the price as it couldn't show more than £1.......per GALLON

Apparently the price per barrel ($70) is now less than half the maximum ($147) it hit a few months back.

...so why hasn't the pump price halved too??!?   >:(

Unleaded 94.9 at my local ASDA this morning. Despite OPEC's decision to cut production by 1.5 million barrels a day from November, crude is off by $5 a barrel again today.

If OPEC don't succeed in stopping the price falling, that tinker Darling will slap some more duty on, be sure of that!

The government cannot control the price of petrol, except through taxation. The wholesale price of crude is dropping, but it takes time to work its way through to the pumps. That said, I do think the suppliers are dragging their heels and I do not believe that the current price reflects the wholesale market. I would expect to see further cuts on the forecourt at some stage, although the value of sterling does not help and could be used as an excuse to keep the price higher than it would otherwise be.

As far as OPEC are concerned, you have to remember that these countries have investments throughout the world (especially the Saudis) and they are savvy enough to know that the world economy needs all the help it can get right now, so they would not, IMHO, wish to rock the boat economically. And yep, the price of crude is now down to $61 barrel  :y. I did say, back in June, that the true demand/supply price should be between $60-$80, so it's looking on the low side to me, now.

My guess (and that's all it is!) is that the price of unleaded will drift lower and bottom out somewhere between 85p and 90p per litre.

us northerners seem to be seeing the cuts sooner than south!!

oil at under $62 a barrel, and our petrol down to 94.9ppl!!

on the downside, its been that long since i needed a refill it was 102.9 last time! (3 weeks ago!)

small engines are the way forward!!
