Card Only Filling Station
« on: 30 October 2008, 17:20:06 »

Our local Asda has just relocate there filling station and has now gone card only payment (no attendants, well one there at the moment to deal with problems)
Anyone had any trouble with these type of pay at pump places, in other words need I worry about using them?
It's the only one I know of in our area at the moment, my only concerns  are 1) Can they to be trusted 2) more jobs cut as they don't need attendants.

they are great, used one in Belgium. Was a bit nervous being a foreign credit card, but pulled up, machine straight away was asking select language!

Press english, put your card in, then pin, then just pump away.

Dead simple, love them.

Much better than queing for 20 feking minites in BP when the BP monkeys are running around making coffee or someone dumps their weeks worth of shopping at the till

Asda in Hull has one too - when I worked up there it was dead easy. I don't know if it was me, but the fuel was cheaper there too - probably to do with the fact that they didn't have to pay anyone to stand around gazing out of the window and read newspapers or sell porn to teenagers in the middle of the night (allegedly).

We had one in Eastleigh town center for a while, it was great with no hold ups and no queue's
It closed for some reason, but we where not told why. I suspect not enough money was being made from the sale of sweets papers and groceries.

I thought all Asda had pay at pump only for years, in fact I was quite shocked to see an Asda in Nottingham that didn't a few months back.

Obviously, likes of Tescos etc have had Pay@Pump for 15yrs, but never seen Tescos without a cashier service as well

I've been using Tesco (and others) Pay@Pump for years and never had a problem, touch wood. Oh, its sometimes difficult to get Club Points and use the 5p per ltr voucher.  :y

These used to wind me up in France because on Sundays there's no cashier and they didn't used to take UK credit cards. However, so many idiots seem to do their weekly shop in petrol stations these days I reckon it's a great idea.

I've just found the LPG station with the fastest pump I've ever used - 40 litres in about 30 seconds I reckon. Then I had to wait 10 minutes for a cashier in the M&S that's attached to it. >:(

The only 'issue' with the ASDA ones i used is the £70 limit, but if you come back 10 mins later and try the same card it will not work.

Now fuel has gone back down its possibly not so much of an issue
