In a moment of madness I reversed my "Miggy" into the skip that was on my driveway.   ( Don't ask how - it's a long story - but something to do with being in "R"  when it should have been in "D")

Damage is really quite minor to rear offside quarter. Both lights are broken & a minor dent & scuff to the quarter it's self.& some yellow "skipcolour" paint left behind.

I was amazed   when the accident repair centre came up a list of faults as long as my arm : New boot lid, rear quarter itself to be replaced, new lights, new bumper etc.  etc. And therefore have called it an "uneconomical write off".

I will of course attempt to buy back the car but wondered if anyone has an idea of what they might value it at. It's a late '98  3.0 Elite.

I seem to remember that when I first insured it 2 years ago i valued it at about £1800.

No idea, sorry, other than to say that prices of large-engine petrol cars seem to go down dramatically these days, in spite of recent reductions in petrol prices. It seems that in the public's mind you should either go green or go naughty, i.e. Prius or Porsche, but nothing in between...

Why claim through your insurance :-?
If the damage is as less as you say, then find someone to do the repair yourself, then you can specify what you want doing.
If you claim, you'll lose your NCB (if unprotected) & pay the excess or risk losing the car.

They will write off on tiny bumps now - even facelift cars

TBH insurance on migs is now only there to protect OTHER motorists (and because it's a legal "must have"). Any bump you inflict on yourself ( or damage inflicted by others) ....... if it's going to cost under the excess, DIY, and if it's over the excess it's likely to be a write off  :-/
