i see no point repeating whats been said as its all sound advice, only thing i'd add is if your winter riding, or doing long journeys some winter gloves, or handlebar muffs aren;t a bad idea, i've had wet gloves before, and ten minutes in the winter at 70 in those made me want to cry my hands hurt so much from the cold (actually pulled in to a service station and spent 20 minutes at the hand dryer in the bogs). Also worth getting is a primaloft top. Can pick them up in outdoor shops for bout 50 to £100, they are very light, but super warm even when wet, so work great under jackets.
Remember, you can be as safe as you like, its the other idiots you got to look out for, car drivers are cocooned, and on a wintwr morning just wont see you, so good kits a must.
Your road awareness in your car should get better though as a bike rider.
