Well, my wife, myself and 2 kids are currently homed by an ageing 16 year old cat, she allows us to stay purely for her amusement, and to wait on her constantly. She meows, we feed her, she meows, we let her out, she meows, we let her in, she meows, we make a fuss of her.

She proudly has a spot in every room in the house just for herself, and when shredding furniture or carpets she is never told off. If I move her on the bed it is perfectly acceptable for her to hiss and scratch me.

Do I get protected by any laws ?

That sounds a bit like our house ::) ::) ::) We also have a dog and did introduce them to each other nicely. ::)

They sleep together now, is that ok?

That is not nice cem, If I am honest and admit I am real softy when it comes to cat's, It really would break my heart to see cat's with not enough food and love.  :(

With this government that is probably perfectly acceptable, as considered mixed gender/race/sexual orientation couple or some title they would like to give it.

Well done to your mum I say.

We are lucky we have frogs, a toad, mice and newts in our garden we have as regular visitors a fox and a hegehog and very occasionally a badger and a jay.
And all of them are welcome in our garden, except I do get a tiny bit upset with the mice when they build homes in my garage and sheds, I have a large log pile for them.

Mike

P.S. please don't think I live in some big house in the country as I don't. It is a small bungalow in the suburbs.

Dad's a retired vet. Been brought up with animals so me & most of us don't need any help regarding the well being of our pets thankyou.
OOF example. Markey Marks Springer Spaniel runs up to welcome you, asks for a fuss, get's a fuss then breaks off & falls asleep 'til the next time you see him. Dog's got it sorted. How much help do you need? As MDTM said we're paying for these ill informed folk to do thier non jobs. They'll be telling us what we can & can't laugh at next.....oh, too late. ::)

Dogs have owners, Cats have slaves. Provide proper toiliting does this government think all pet owners are thick. My 2 cats could do a better job. Just put a no fishing sign on the aquarium.

Whilst a lot of that article does seem to eminate from cloud cookoo land,  some animal owners obviously do need advice and guidance on 'toileting issues'.  Only today I have had to avoid 2 large lots of pavement mounted dogs eggs in the short walk to my sons school.
And a walk in our local nature reserve is not exacly enhanced by the gentle waft of sh*te which is alwys in the breeze. I know that there are many very responsible pet owners about (me amonst them) but while there are still the low life about who think we enjoy paddling in Fidos food waste we will all be tarred with the same brush
