Sympathy please!!! :D

You may recall I went to A+E Yesterday, with my manky finger and swolen nodes in my arm.

I went to a follow up appt with my GP today. She's basically told me I've got blood poisoning, has prescribed me a basket full of antibiotics .

She's insisted I see her again at 4pm tomorrow, and if there is not a significant improvement, then I'm going into hospital. Apparently if it "tracks" beyond the arm, I am to call an ambulance immediately because it could be fatal.

I've never been to hospital before - I was expecting her to fob me off as per usual, but she was very serious and concerned for once  :'(

Thanks to STMO and others for encouraging me to go to A+E yesterday, apparently if I hadn't, then god knows  :-X

I didn't know about this but would have encouraged the action you have taken... I know someone who had the same symptoms and ignored them... Luckily he only lost a finger!

Please don't ignore any worsening symptoms James... It really is serious stuff :o :o :o :o

That said, seems like you've got it looked at in time :y :y :y

that is serious.  fingers crossed james, must be very worried man at moment. take it easy fella

southern softie ;D

Last time they got me in hospital, they dragged me there in an icecream van hooked up to ECG.  Things were blurry, but the paramedic was top tottie ::).  I was strapped down to the stretcher thing so could escape  :'(.

Got 3 days off work though :y

Me too. Sounded like it had a V8 in it though. 8-)

Hope you mend soon, James.  :y

Glad you are getting it sorted ...  some years back I stabbed myself with a bit of metal when working on a car ... just below the thumb-nail .. thought no more about it .. 48 hours later my whole arm was 3 times its normal size, unbendable and had funny black lines just below the skin ... went to the docs and was blue-lighted to hospital .... I passed out on the way .... woke up 3 days later still on a drip ... The docs said after that if those antibiotics hadn't worked they had nothing stronger ....  :(

I would ask everyone who works on cars to think about hygiene and cleanliness.. and if you cut or scratch yourself .. get it clean .. properly clean ... fast, then smother in antiseptic cream

hope all goes well mate, but no offence intended have you told them that you are our resident spanner monkey and as such spend alot of your time working with such things as brake fluid, atf, used engine oil. all of wich can cause blood poisoning.( i am speaking from personal experience)  again sorry if cause any offence. just checking

No offence taken mate, but I've not had any real recent exposure  :-/

i got blood piosoning when i was 16 and was working in the local garage. got brake fluid in a cut i had on my arm. took 2 weeks to get to the point where i went to the doctors. spent 6 weeks on meds and weekly blood tests. hurt like crazy.

Well, it was the last time I took Aspirin, put it that way. Came in after a long day at the airfield under the sun and with a bit of a headache. Took a couple of aspirin and could barely breathe 15 minutes later. Was living alone then, didn't know how much worse it was going to get so thought ice cream van was the best bet.

Believe it was some sort of Leyland duff so probably sherpa derived with a rover V8.

I had what you've got James. Started with sand inside my boot & ended with a red track leading up past my knee & BIG pain. The then Mrs MV6 insisted we went to Worthing hospital & tetnus boost & anti b's.
Had i left it another day or two the leg would've come off due infection causing red & white blood cells to fall out with eachother, if it hit my heart, game over so sort it mate. :y

Is it cellulitis?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellulitis

If so, stop taking the piss and get yourself sorted. Your life is in danger.

I had this in a foot a few years ago. The black line they indelibly marked around it was the most important thing in my life for 4 days. It hurt like hell and I was proper ill. Like they said, if it tracked up the blood vessels, I was breaked.

"Cellulitis" sounds like a gay disease. It should be called The Creeping Red Death. Same thing whatever...

Letting your body have the best chance to fight this is your top priority, probably the only one for the next week. No messing James.

THe V8 Ambulances were quick but budget cuts forced the wide adoption of Diseasels

Seeing an ambulance squat down at the rear end and rumble away is very reassuring

Hospital is OK James, you will be fine, just remember to take a debit / Credit car in to access the TV/Phone/Internet combined system, costs loads :)
