With what has happened in the above thread then I think its time for an Alarm to be fitted

Any advice on Manufactureres to avoid/recomend.

I need coverage for 2 Bedrooms, hall, living room , kitchen, bathroom and 3 outbuildings that dont have power. (wireless - maybe)

Also looking into adding PIR security light with CCTV if possible.

I have a CPC/Farnell account but have no experience with alarm systems at all.

Any advice would be appreiated.

Not in the slightest.   We live on a juction whereby traffic coming off the estate looks right into his living room, he goes out evey night to the pub, out at work all day.  42" plasma on display at night when they are in as they  dont close the blinds and his computer is left on all the time by the front window.  Full alarm system, obviously not turned on.

Has UPVC windows but wooden doors which stick badly in the cold months so I get fed up of them coming in and out and banging the doors as they do so.

Now yesterday I heard a serries of noises (as I told the police) but thought it was them syruggling eith the doors, now had the alarm gone off then I would have been concerned and taken notice.

My reason for an alarm is that I am moving home in the new year and dont know the people in the new area, and as I know that people cant help but be nosy I know they will be scanning what I take into the new place with me.  I suppose the bit that puts me on edge is that it looks like a couple of chavs with toy corsa;s etc live there and without jumping to the wrong conclusion is that I would rather try to be safer than sorrier.

Plus I also get an insurance discount.

Am not a wireless fan at all (even on ADSL Modems) but may have to be a consideration for at least one of the outbuildings if only for a short period of time.

Hopeing I can get a panel that will allow it as an option.

I would recommend wireless, but only if you are willing to spend a bit extra for a quality one, I have a Scantronic Wireless system fitted, I am 100% happy. Wireless keeps the instalation cost down and makes it very simple and easy to add more sensors to it. For example I have my shed alarmed and its as easy as pairing the PIR to the alarm then mounting it in the shed! you can even add pressure pads, glass break sensors etc. It also means you can have the main alarm controls away from the entry point and just have a simple keypad to enable & disable, this means there is no risk of people tampering with the main box. Another great thing I have put in is a Dialer, which once programmed can call preset telephone numbers and playback a recorded message to say the alarm has been triggered.

The only downside it you have to change the 2 AA batterys in the PIR's every 6-12 months. You need to make sure you get PIR's that once activated by heat, they switch off for 3 minutes or so. This ensures that the batterys last much longer than if it was constantly sensing.
