I also believe that the best option is fir the constituent parts of the U.K. to stick together, certainly much more than seems to be the case at the moment.I do believe though that the devolution experiment is a waste of time and that all 4 countries of the u.k. should be governed by one government at Westminster or be given full independence.
The situation we have at the moment imo just isnt right, the ball may have swung too far the other way in Thatchers time but it doesnt make it right to let it swing too far the other way in the future.
btw H21 the poll tax experiment didnt quite get rolled out across the U.K it never got to norn irn,she was brave but not that brave. ;D

It is no experiment Albitz. ;)

It was brought in by Blair under severe pressure from Scotland and Wales to gain full political democratic representation for those countries, who had basically pushed out 'English' Conservative and Labour MPs of the Westminster Parliament after the percieved/actual destruction of their heavy industries which they blamed on Maggie T.

The population of those countries had made it clear they wanted representation and Blair promised they would get it to gain votes for his 1997 Election win. ;)

Cannot yet see any sign that this constitutional arrangement will/can be ammended any time soon. :(

In the bigger picture of the past and future of the U.K. it could be viewed as an experiment, and one which went badly wrong in my view, but whatever term is hung on it I believe it should either be reversed,or (a much less preferable option) Scotland Wales & N.I.should be given complete independence.
From my own personal viewpoint, some of the things which go on in N.I. politics these days are disgraceful. They have always had a fantastic education system and didnt follow most of the rest of the UK up the blind alley of abolition of grammer schools, but the republicans who now hold a lot of power at stormont are unreconstructed marxists and have this week finally succeeded in having the 11 plus abolished.
A couple of weeks ago there was a homecoming parade for soldiers returning from Iraq/Afghanistan in Belfast and Sinn Fein and their friends held demonstration parades against the homecoming parade.
Its the UK ffs, charge them with treason and carry on regardless.

Grammmar schools - you have to pay for them now.

We are having a LOT of help, but why should we have to when the grammar system worked so well for clever children.

Good excuse to put the boot into them - these soldiers put their life on the line and get shit like this thrown at them.

Do here - the secondary schools - one is a performing arts academy, another is a sink school, another too far, the nearest over subscribed, the one doing OK is Catholic, leaving a couple of fee paying Grammars
