LPG. tank swapping and maintenance!
« on: 23 November 2008, 18:10:31 »

this may have been mentioned recently but didn't turn up on a search so forgive me for repetition! also it's kinda techy but not specific so thought Chat best arena for....

LPG.

Firstly what maintenance is needed? I'm still enjoying the fruits of JamesV6CDX and friends' labour on my GLS but thinking ahead i'm wondering what costs and bitsnbobs are needed?

Secondly...

any developments on tank swapping?

I think that replacing the petrol tank with a large gas tank the same size (ie 75litres?) and then fitting a small donut (or otherwise ) petrol tank in the spare wheel well would be A Very Good Thing.

maximum LPG range with minimum interior space loss!

Anyone done this yet or found a viable way? I like my donut gas tank but filling up every 150 miles is somewhat restraining! And gets expensive when LPG varies from 42p to 63p!

something to ponder for the future....  :-/

One last Omega on the drive, one Corsa on the lawn...maybe they'll go to a good home before too long!

Hi Dave,

Only real maintenance would be to change the LPG filter, Two clips, and about a tenner, IIRC.

In my humble opinion, it wouldn't be worth chopping tanks around in that car, given the mileage..

thanks james, nice to hear from you again!

I'm actually thinking of future cars tank wise, as you say 178k is a lot  of mileage for investing in a motor! But my saloon only has 85k,...... so maybe after getting it fixed it may be worth converting it!

having said that, my first omega was a 2.0 select - the most basic ever which was never worth upgrading to better spec, but gave me the taste for all things mig. likewise the lpg estate i got now has given me the taste both for the massive space of an estate and the bonus of lpg running! my friends are amazed it drives the same on unleaded as lpg!

so i may be in the market next year for an elite estate  :o once the others are fixed/broken-up/sold on etc etc. lol!! ;D

That T reg Estate of yours, that I originally got fro Tunnie and gassed, has turned out to be a bit of a cracker really... as long as the speedo is an easy fix!

If that rad pin hole is annoying you, I am almost certain I have a known good rad here, you can have it for the postage if so :y

TBH replacing petrol tank with an LPG tank would be fruitless... Very strict ground clearances are required for LPG tanks and they cannot be shaped the same as the petrol tank so you'll just end up with a smaller petrol tank!

you have PM!!

hmm i feel a kindred spirit of hoarding and swapping omegas!  8-)

here's hoping the speedo's an easy fix. i know the rad shouldn't be too tricky but as I mostly travel short distances i've got in the very bad habit of carrying a 3l bottle of diluted coolant and topping up a lot!
i did try the padding fix but it blew off quite soon. thanks for the rad offer tho, but is there any reason the one in my un-moved 2.5v6auto wouldnt work in the 2.0 manual? i know it's extra spanner work but i'll make time! honest guvnor!
ttfn!
