Break from Omega's - but I'll be back
« on: 28 December 2006, 10:29:51 »

As per the title - I've decided that it's just not feasable for me to own one of these things at the moment. At 23mpg running around, and with stuff to pay off, and bad insurance premiums, an Omega is just not an option for me at the moment.

I've bought myself a tidy little rover diesel last night, which did about 50mpg on the way home and was a pleasure to drive (nothing like an omega mind) ...

I don't plan on leaving or becoming a stranger, I still plan to be an active part of the forum. My plan is to run around in this cheap car until September, when hopefully I'll have paid off the bulk of my debts, and then I'll be in a position to get the Elite that I've been wanting for a while!

This also means I get the chance I wanted to experiment with bio-fuels, which I've wanted to do for a long time. 50mpg at 35p a litre here I come :D

PS........

The project Omega is now sold and is being collected on Sunday, but if anyone's interested -

N reg 2.5CDX, great runner, 6 months MOT, 3 Months Tax, very slight coolant leak, needs one new tyre - sensible offers won't be refused :D

This is a 200 series, with the 1905CC peugeot diesel engine in it. Generally a bulletproof engine, in my experience.

Shame is - it's got a lucas diesel pump, which is nowhere near as tolerant to veggie oil, compared to the bosch units.

It should still be happy with a 50/50 mix though

Interestingly, if anyone's got any ideas, my heater seems to be playing up in the Rover. It doesn't want to blow cold air. I felt the pipes going into the matrix which were all warm, but no heat in the car.

There were two vaccum pipes coming out of the bulkhead - both disconnected. One looks like it should be on top of the HBV (yes it's got one!) and one goes to the vaccum pump. so I've hooked these up, now I get a BIT of warm air, but it only blows hot for a few seconds, and then cold again :S

Must be honest, thought 200s used cables, not vacs for blenders...

Should be easily achievable from a small, modern diesel on motorway runs...

Mrs TheBoy's dad has an N reg one, 170k on clock, and still going strong.... ....bit rattly when cold though....

Just had a look..

when the mrs moves the dial that goes from the heater control, I see the cable move under the passenger dash/footwell and its pulling something.. so seems to be intact.

the bottom hose into the matrix (which I think is the feed) is getting hot, however the top hose, that goes into HBV and matrix is hot in places, but not others, and nowhere near as hot as the bottom one.

I'm suspecting either a blockage in the matrix, or a shagged HBV. The valve looks very old, and may just have to be bypassed? :D

Engine temp is fine, no exessive pressure etc.

You got it Martin - there is no plans to permanently move away from Omega, just a short term money saving measure, and like you say will give me time to do up a nice Elite for next winter :D
