being a member of many forums i can honestly say that this is the most clique. it appears that unless you are well known then most nof your threads will be ignored. it regularly apprears that a lesser known member will post somthing and get get next to no replies but a better known memeber  will post something similar and will get plenty of repiles

I have very rarely seen a thread that has not had a single reply, and also very rare for a thread not to get a reply within the hour.

In fact technical thread questions I have have sometimes seem 5 replies to a question in as many minutes.

I've been around here since the early days and achieved nearly 10,000 posts. If I didn't value the site then I wouldn't have come this far.

So - yes, there are lots of good things about this forum. The amount of combined knowledge we provide is possibly unbeatable, so for the purpose of maintaining cars, the forum does it's job in an absolutely sterling way.

Also on the positive side, I have met a number of really firm friends here, which in itself has made joining up worthwhile.

So - on the balance of things, the good definately outweighs the bad, here.

On the flipside... I have seen it said a few times, by different people, that this forum is cliquey - including one member who quickly removed their account shortly after joining for this reason - so I think it's worth at least remaining mindful that some people hold this view, and take some personal responsibility to try our best to ensure we don't come across in this way.

I am learning the (somewhat difficult) lesson that it's not always possible to please everyone, and sometimes people will have different views than you. In these situations, it's important not to take it too personally.

On every forum, without exception, there will be people who are very quick to pick out flaws in things you say, and potentially flame you or antagonise you with it - in which case it's usually best just to let them get on with it and not give them the desired reactions.

I've been on a few forums, not all car related - and I've seen a LOT more trolls on them all, compared to OOF!

I think bottom line is, although this site is a great resource and a great community, things said ARE only on a website, usually by people you don't see very often, so aren't worth worrying about too much  :y

Sorry you feel like that Kris. We were all newbies once & it is a busy forum but it's entertaining given the variety of good & bad topics. Try a meeting or two next year. My first was Lakes 07. The admins just drink, eat, fix, laugh, & chat the same as anyone else.
Whilst i'm an utter gobsh&te i don't answer every post i read but your user name is becoming familiar now to me & i'm sure others.
Some of us have become personal friends but the gates are open to others mate. :y

I'am surprised that you think this way Kris......you have over 1000 posts and are pretty well known on this forum.
Overall this is a good friendly forum where most people get on well with each other.......best not to take things to personally.
I have responded to your posts as have others....just have fun. :y :y :y

Kris,

I hope that the general response that you have received to this thread has helped to reassure you. You are a member, who likes omegas and are therefore just as valid, valuable and welcome as the rest of us mate.

No-one on here, with the exception of the admins, is any more valid than anyone else. IMO you're no different to anyone else on here. To be honest I don't even notice who posts what I tend to focus on the content of each post rather than the person or name who posted it.

Please don't drop out on your opinion yet, I'm sure that you'll find it a nice warm place to be and it is a shame you feel strongly enough about it to make the point of posting.

Within 3 weeks of my joining I started a random thread about an idea for an OOF member map which took off so much it now stands at 23 pages and 337 posts. It even eventually got a button added to the pages in the OOF.

Personally speaking I don't think you can be much more "welcomed to the fold" than that.

Give it a chance. :y
