In the pre-budget report today the Govt have said on road tax that "no driver in any given band will pay more than £5 extra in 2009 or £30 extra in 2010".  A major result as they previously suggested that the 3.2 V6 would end up costing £440 from next year!

Didnt think they would go through with it tbh. Would not let it put me off er... buying... one... anyway.

 Someone tell me, what do you buy instead, thats as inexpensive and still similar to the omega? Surely youll end up paying more than 200 a year over all? Apart from a pre oct 01 omega of course, which would only have been a year younger than my previous mig.

Sadly I don't think it will do much for used car values though, they are only putting it off for a while, or going to implement it over a loger period.
Also the "reduction" in VAT is being off set by an icrease in duty on fuel/fags/beer, the VAT is going back up in 13 months but no mention of the duty dropping on fuel/fags/beer in 13 months time.
As per usual with this government, on the face of it, it looks like they have done us a favour, but underneath it we are bent over the table again.

Yes indeed even at the age of 43 I remeber the power cuts for no reason, and 3 day working week my father was on.

Chris, after the recession in 91/92 the country/economy was growing steadily under John Major. When labour came to power the economy was doing very well, most of labours first 5 years was thanks to the tories. The last 5 years of ridiculous house prices and borrowing beyond the countries means is down to labour.
There are of course many other factors to it, and I certainly do not want an argument on politics.

Sad thing is that they then rode the fruits of the previous governments labours through the easy times and borrowed stupidly to spend on inefficient public services.

I remember the power cuts. Unions." What about the workers", just about remember that.

Poll tax and council tax riots,haveing to find £500 in poll tax,  a year after leaveing, school 3 million unemplyed,15.7% inflation, black tuesday, black monday and a" haves and have nots" attitude that  really turns my stomach. Under the tories i could not get on the ladder, i now own 3 properties under labour for that and several other  more generous reasons. I WILL be voteing Labour next time around.

Its funny, the general approach of people on this forum is generous and open minded but conversely i think its fair to say political opinion seems to lie in the blue corner on average? To me, that seems a contradiction? Fair comment or not?

I will vote for whoever there is that will do the best for UK plc.....and the current bunch have not and are not.

That leaves one other alternative.

I also struggle to see anything that the current bunch have done that would have helped you. I suspect you have benefited from the economic upturn of the 90's which is not anything related to a decision the current crowd have made.

Chris, why could you not get on the property ladder under the tories, I bought my first house in 1987, the height of the last propery boom if memory serves me right. My salary then was about 12k per year and the house was 29k. It was a 3 bed semi.
What is an average salary today 25-30k and the same house round here is now 150-175k. To me that says something is wrong.

P.S. I am an undecided voter, I no I would not vote labour,  but equally hate the rest. As I have said in past posts, this next election when it comes, will be possibly be the first election I may not vote in. I have allways said we should allways vote, but when you hate them all waht can you do.
