With regard to the 2nd link.this man is an evangelical christian,and as such believes that homosexuality is morally wrong.
This was the norm amongst christian religions until perhaps 20 years when a debate started which stil hasnt (and probably never will) achieved a consensus.
Afaik ,the muslim religion not only views homosexuality as an abomination,but believes that they should be put to death.So to follow the logic of this dismissal surely Muslims should be barred from joining the police service in the U.K.  :question  
That is without even starting on thier attitude to women.

Why does something someone says in jest outside a work scenario necessarily reflect their own views, and why should those views necessarily affect their ability to do their jobs?

I'm not in the police, but some of the things I say when under an Omega and things don't go right wouldn't be entirely acceptable in front of a customer. The fact is, I know what's required of me at work.

Why should it be any different in the Police? Why shouldn't they be judged on their performance on the job not in the tea room?

Do Police Officers have to be saint's these days ?  We have all, at some point, made ill thought out remarks -- they don't reflect our innermost attitudes or beliefs.

Be honest -- how many times have you sworn you hated someone -- does that now make you a hateful person --- have you ever uttered "I will kill you / her / him "  -- I have I am sure -- does that make me a murderer.

Point out the error of their ways -- but this knee jerk reaction just to prove political correctness is way over the top !
